“Test Tube Thursday” at Dieterich Elementary School
On Thursday, October 27, 2011, the fifth graders at Dieterich Elementary School in
Aurora kicked off their first “Test Tube Thursday” science program. The five fifth grade
teachers each hosted an experiment in their classrooms while the fifth graders rotated to
each room to complete the experiments. This month’s theme was about coins so students
measured, tested, and analyzed coins in experiements that involved probability, surface
tension of liquids on coins and more. The students used the scientific method throughout
the two hour process. The next Test Tube Thursday at Dieterich will be in November
and by the end of the year the fifth graders will have completed forty experiements as
part of the program.
