22nd March 2013 Newsletter No 24 William Fletcher School Dear Parents and Carers, Many of you will be aware that we had an Ofsted inspection this week, thank you to all parent and carers who completed the questionnaire and spoke to the inspectors. Thank you also to the whole staff team, school governors and of course our wonderful children. We will be able to share the outcome of the inspection after the Easter holidays, when we receive the formal report. Thank you to all the children who participated in Red Nose Day. Everyone made a great effort dressing up and the school managed to raise £163. Last Thursday Mrs Phillips took a team of girls from Year 3, 4 & 6 to represent our school at The Headington Girls Cross Country race. Well done to all the girls who ran fantastically well and were great ambassadors for our school. Thank you to Mrs Phillips, Mrs Morris and Mrs BridgesMartin for transporting and supporting the children. On Tuesday some pupils from Years 5 and 6 went to represent our school at the Oxfordshire Indoor Athletics Finals. The children performed to a really high standard and achieved a well deserved 6th place. Well done to all children who took part and thank you to Mr Lister and Mr Pring for taking the children to this event. Year 1 & Year 2 are holding a cake sale on Monday 25th March in the hall after school. Please can children remember to bring in some loose change so they can buy a cake if they wish. Well done to them for successfully completing a range of tasks and activities to a high standard to be awarded their arrow badges. Mrs Phillips – Running the London Marathon! Mrs Phillips is running the London Marathon on 21st April 2013 (26.2 miles!) and is raising money for the NSPCC. Sickness or Diarrhoea There have been cases of sickness and diarrhoea within the school recently. Please note the recommended period for your child to be kept away from school is 48 hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea. This will help stop the spread of infection to other children. Raising Concerns If you have any concerns regarding your child at school please do come and talk to your child’s teacher so that we can solve issues before they become problems. If you are unable to speak to your child’s class teacher do please speak to Mrs Nind. Sainsbury’s and Tesco Vouchers The Sainsbury’s voucher scheme has just started and the Tesco voucher scheme will be starting soon. We will be collecting the vouchers which we use to purchase equipment for the school. When you have any of these vouchers please hand them into the office where they will be counted! PTA News William Fletcher Easter Letter Hunt WIN A GREAT EASTER HAMPER The PTA have organised a ‘Letter Hunt’ around Yarnton village. Your child will have been given an entry form yesterday. The letters will be displayed this weekend from Friday 22nd March until Monday 25th March. There are 10 letters to find. Simply find all the letters and arrange them to make an Easter object. To be entered in the prize draw please return your completed form and £1.00 entry to the office by Tuesday 26th March. Happy hunting!!! Chocolate Square The PTA have organised a chocolate square board, from today and every day next week after school, you are invited to give £1 and put your name on a square. At the next of week squares will be drawn and the lucky winners will win an Easter egg. Chess Club Today will be the last chess club this term and we will finish the school tournament which decides who qualifies for the Mega final on 4th May. The best boy and girl in each year will automatically qualify. There is also another chance to qualify through the “last chance” tournament on 13 th April. This will be at Magdalen College School from 9.30am to approximately 3.30pm. All those who have played team chess this year would have a good chance to qualify. Last year several children did well enough in the Mega final to qualify for the Giga final later in the year. Well done to Marielle Lee who played for Oxfordshire last weekend, helping the team that qualified for the national county championship. Yarnton Blues Football Club There will be a free football taster session for 5 & 6 year olds at Rutten Lane playing fields on Thursday 18th April from 5.30pm – 6.30pm. Training is every Thursday. The children enjoy a range of breakfast cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts and toast, followed by the opportunity to play indoor games. The cost is £3.50 per child starting at 07.30 and £3.00 per child starting at 08:00. If you would like your children to take part in breakfast club please see Mrs Morris in the office.
