Catholic Education Week: Serving in the Love of Christ
Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith communities. We – parents, students, teachers,
administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the
‘together’ that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called us by name. But the
response of each of us to that growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our
Catholic community be that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community.
Our school community will celebrate Catholic Education Week 2014 in ways that are appropriate to our students’ age.
There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:
Monday – Serve with faithfulness
Tuesday – Serve with humility
Wednesday – Serve with compassion
Thursday – Serve with justice
Friday – Serve with joy
Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to
help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own developed activities we have
prepared a series of activities which will highlight how our school is ‘Serving in the Love of Christ’.
We hope to see many of you during our school celebrations.

LENTEN FUNDRAISER –FREE THE CHILDREN
We are thrilled to announce that our Lenten fundraiser for Free the Children was a huge success raising over
$1555.00. Over $1000.00 was raised through the sale of bracelets to buy school supplies for 100 students for a school
year! Our coin drive raised over $555.00 and counting… with that money going toward the “Buy a Brick” program and
their efforts to build 500 schools this year in honour of Nelson Mandela. We thank all our school community for their
generous support!
THE EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT FOR GRADE TWO STUDENTS
Mrs. Hodge, Mrs. McParland and Mrs. Code’s classes have created their own pottery
bowls with the help of local potter, Susie Osler. They plan to use their creation to help feed
local, hungry children.
To participate, simply bring a food or cash donation to our morning
open house on Wednesday, May 7. In exchange for your donation, you will be served breakfast in one of the handcrafted bowls.
PLEASE NOTE: Only children accompanied by an adult will be served breakfast out of the bowls at this event.
Please join us for breakfast on Wednesday, May 7th from 8:30 am – 9:30am, while the children share some of
their learning. We look forward to seeing you there!
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
It’s Book Fair time! Please stop in to the library and check out what’s new for spring
and summer reading. As your child reaches new levels in reading, the book fair can
offer so many choices in books. By purchasing books and supporting our book fair,
you enable us to obtain new resources for our school and classroom libraries.
With every purchase, your name will be entered into a draw to win an additional $25.00 in books for your
child and $25.00 in books for your child’s classroom. Thank you for your generous support!
