MISC
We are on the Pride Assembly schedule today. The Pride Assembly will be between 2 nd and
3rd periods from 10:14 – 11:14.
Seniors – The representative from Herff Jones will be here this Thursday, December 5 to
take orders during lunch and from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.
Help the Grinnell High School library by shopping locally. Because Grinnell College is GHS’s
Partner in Education, The Pioneer Bookshop will donate 10% of all sales for the month of
December to the GHS library. The Pioneer Bookshop is located in downtown Grinnell at 823
4th Avenue and regular hours are Monday-Friday 10 am-6 pm, Thursday 10 am-8 pm,
and Saturday 10 am-4 pm, with extended holiday hours starting soon.
ATHLETICS
Varsity Boys Basketball from last night: Grinnell 70 and South Tama 27.
Congratulations to girls’ basketball teams on their victories against STC last night. The JV
team won 73-19. The Varsity team won 57-40.
Girls' 9th grade basketball won last night against Southa Tama 31-27.
GUIDANCE
Sophomores: You will be taking the PLAN Test Thursday afternoon and Friday morning in
different rooms. Room Assignments have been e-mailed to you and posted around the
building. The Pre-test portion will start Thursday afternoon at 2:00 and the testing will
start Friday morning periods 1-3. The PLAN test has a career component and is a shorter
but similar version of the ACT Assessment. Doing well on the PLAN Test also has
implications for students wanting to take college classes at Iowa Valley and Grinnell College.

Juniors, here is a scholarship just for you. The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is
a project driven program not based on grades, test scores, essays or financial need. The
project is something you are passionate about. You propose and then accomplish projects of
your own design, which invests your talents and energies in your school, community and
beyond. Your proposal needs to be submitted by March 31, 2014. Further information is in
the counseling office.
The Burger King Scholars Program helps seniors who have a GPA of 2.5 pay for college. The
application period is Nov. 15, 2013 through January 10, 2014. Apply online at

The Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education will award up to 15 scholarships of
$2,000 each to seniors who will pursue automotive-related studies, such as technician
training, body shop/collision repair, diesel, new vehicle sales, parts sales, accounting,
marketing or business administration. The application is due at IADA headquarters by 5 p.m.
on March 3, 2014. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to attend an Iowa college
or university.
CLUBS
GSA will be cancelled today, so that students attend the rally at JRC to stand united with
Grinnell College.

The next SWAG meeting will be Thursday, January 9, 2014 in room 68.
FCCLA will be going to Windsor Manor (an assisted living home in Grinnell) after school
on Wednesday, December 11 to sing carols with the residents. We would appreciate some
more voices to help us with this project! We will leave school at 3:20 and be there about one
hour. You will receive community service credit for doing this. Please email Mrs. Huebner or
stop by room 50 if you are interested in helping with this project. Thanks!!
The children's "shopping day" for the Christmas Share program is this Saturday, December 7
from 10-3:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church. If you indicated an interest in helping please
stop by Mrs. Huebner's room (#50) to let her know the times you will be able to help or if you
can no longer attend. Thanks!
It's not too late to join Large Group speech!! Openings in the awesome categories of
Group Improv, Short Film, Group Mime, Solo Mime, 9th grade Readers Theatre, 9th Grade
Ensemble Acting, 9th Grade Group Improv and 9th Grade Musical Theatre have room for
more! Grab a form outside of Room 17 & see Mrs. Hansen for more details.
The first Beauty & the Beast choreography rehearsal has been changed to Thursday,
December 5. Please meet at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. You will learn the dance for Be Our
Guest - all cast must attend. You must notify either Mrs. Hansen or Mr. Henderson if you are
unable to attend.
Beauty & the Beast needs YOU to join a tech crew for the production! Tech Crews for
the show are now under construction. Please complete a tech crew application (located
outside of Room 17) and return to either Mrs. Hansen, Mr. Henderson or Chris Sharpe asap.
