Coordinator of Student Services Main Function To give leadership and direction to all aspects of special education programming and student services within the Southwest Horizon School Division. Support the superintendent and principals in providing leadership and direction to all aspects of curriculum development and implementation: instruction, program delivery, student assessment and reporting practices. Job Functions 1. Be responsible for the long term planning, coordination, development and evaluation of programs in the areas of student services: not necessarily limited to but including exceptional student education, clinical services, resource teacher services, counselling services, teacher assistant support, Aboriginal student support, programming for students at risk, medical interventions, English as a second language and early literacy. 2. Assist the superintendent in providing leadership for long-range divisional planning and monitoring in the areas of curriculum implementation and instructional programming including provincial curriculum and locally developed curricula. 3. Assist the superintendent and school administrations with the recruitment, supervision and evaluation of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, who work in the student services area. 4. Coordinate early years screening programs in the areas of hearing, vision and child development. Partner with other agencies to conduct pre-school screening programs. 5. Be responsible for establishing and maintaining assessment and referral procedures, which will ensure the proper program placement of students. 6. Be responsible for allocating teacher assistant time throughout the division. 7. Be the school division liaison person with community agencies for the identification and school program planning for pre-school children with special needs. Involvement with the Promise Years pre-school programs will include supervision of the pre-school speech and language program and liaison with the home visitor program. 8. Coordinate regular meetings and professional development sessions for staff under the supervision of the student services administrator. 9. Provide support for regular classroom teachers in the accommodation of children with special needs. 10. Collect and compile the necessary data and financial information required by the secretarytreasurer’s department and Manitoba Education Training and Youth for the purposes of funding and long term planning. Assist in coordinating the services of outside agencies to school age children; including Child and Family Services, CNIB, Probation Services, RCMP, Public Health, Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, Children’s Special Services, Mental Health Services, Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation, Vocational Rehabilitation Services etc. 12. Assist the superintendent in planning and facilitating the development and monitoring of student assessment and reporting policies and practices. 13. Assist the superintendent in planning and facilitating the development and monitoring of divisional planning and reporting. 14. Provide support to teachers, including professional development support, in the areas of curriculum implementation, instructional strategies and student assessment. 15. Plan, facilitate and monitor the administration of provincial standards tests and collect divisional data relating to such tests 16. Support the superintendent and board in divisional planning and reporting. 17. Assist the superintendent's office in support to colony schools. 18. Support planning and facilitation of school library services in the school division. 19. Plan and facilitate programming at the adult learning centre and in schools where adult learning services are provided. 20. Assume the responsibility for personal professional growth and development though attendance at educational conferences and workshops related to student services programming. 21. Administer the annual budget allotments for student services programs and curriculum programs. 22. Perform such tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the superintendent’s department. 23. The divisional budget for staff professional development related to curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, and student assessment Qualifications Required: A valid Province of Manitoba teaching certificate. A Special Education Certificate. A proven track record in education, including experience in teaching and special education. Preferred: A Masters degree in Education.
