Seminar details
Young people with SEN often find it difficult to work with text. This can be demotivating,
frustrating and can hold back their creativity. Working with sound can remove this barrier to
learning. Chris will show you how you can create podcasts, which enable youngsters to record
and broadcast themselves over the internet using programs such as Audacity and Podium.
This seminar will review the ICT resources available as part of the SEAL (Social and Emotional
Aspects of Learning curriculum) and
the Interactive whiteboard resources that have been developed by teachers on the ICT/SEAL
county project. It will consider how these resources could be used to support and enhance the
teaching and learning of children with special educational needs.
We are surrounded by data, numbers charts and graphs in our modern life and this aspect forms
a significant part of many subject areas. However, pupils often find data handling dry and fail to
see its relevance. A recent ISP project in a Watford school where different ICTs were used to
collect data in many different curriculum contexts, resulted in pupils embedding their use of
data into their other learning. Teachers and pupils from the Foundation Stage to year 6 found
the approach stimulating and engaging. This seminar presents the project and provides practical
demonstrations of the technologies used.
Watling View School has successfully embedded the use of multimedia ICT to develop
students’ ownership and personalisation of learning. Will and Jacqueline will talk about and
demonstrate how Powerpoint and Clicker 5 are used for electronic IEPs, target setting and
Progress Files.
Handheld technologies such as mobile phones, PDA’s, MP3 players, PSP’s are offering new
opportunities in teaching and learning. This workshop looks at regional and National HH
projects as well as examples of how they have been used with SEN pupils and the positive
impact they can have in terms of motivation and learning.
This seminar will focus on strategic developments in ICT and explore the impact they can have
on the learning of all children and young people. We will look at the Hertfordshire Learning
Platform and discuss how this can be used in the SEN environment, consider eSafety and
conclude by briefly reviewing the SRF and ICT Mark.
