GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN PAEDIATRC RESPIRATORY

SCIENCE (GPRS)

ACCREDITATION:

The Graduate Certificate of Paediatric Respiratory Science is endorsed by the European Respiratory Society and has been accredited by the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology and students successfully completing the course will receive 220 CME credits.

Paediatric Respiratory Medicine is a well-established sub-specialty of Paediatrics. Critical for the appropriate management of children with respiratory disease are clinical measurements that are made using techniques specific to paediatrics.

The University of Western Australia is the state's oldest and most prestigious university. The course will be operated from the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, approximately

5 kilometres for the main University Campus. UWA has formal agreements with 44 international institutions, promoting staff and student exchanges, collaborative research and exchange of teaching materials and methods.

Trans-national programmes facilitate the development of UWA as a genuinely international university, helping to ensure that our students, whether at home or offshore, become world citizens.

The Respiratory Department at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children performs in excess of 3000 tests per year, employs 4 scientists and is typical of tertiary paediatric respiratory laboratories worldwide. The collaboration between the department, the UWA School of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Institute for Child Health

Research has resulted in an international reputation for innovation in and application of physiological measurements of paediatric respiratory function.

Australia is one of few countries with an accreditation process for paediatric sleep laboratories and the Princess

Margaret Hospital for Children Respiratory Laboratory in Perth was the first paediatric laboratory in Australia to achieve accreditation.
