REMOVAL OF SKYROCKET CAPILLARY ECTASIS AND COUPEROSE
Treatment
1. Place neutral electrode as closely as possible to the operations area and make sure the patient
completely covers the neutral electrode.
2. Slightly moisten the area to be treated with saline solution to ensure a better conduction of the radio
waves.
3. Apply slight pressure to the operating area to determine the truncal vessel.
4. Adjust the unit to permanent coagulation, coagulation degree 1, 5 - 7 Watts.
General rule: the bigger the vessel the higher the intensity and coagulation degree.
5. Insert coated electrode No. 54, 55, or 56 into the hand piece with the blue finger switch. General rule:
the bigger the vessel the thicker the electrode.
6. Activate the unit with the finger or foot switch.
7. Punctually tap along the vessel with the activated electrode, penetrate the epidermis only very lightly.
The administration of an anesthetic is usually not necessary, the patient only feels a small pinprick.
Small vessels are sclerosed and disappear spontaneously. Small, bleeding perforations can be closed
with the pulse coagulation. One of the major advantages of radiosurgery is the fact that the lateral area
does not warm up during this procedure.
POSTOPERATIVE SITUATION
Some patients experience a slight burning or itching sensation. Please inform these patients that they should
not scratch themselves under any circumstance. Very rarely hives - looking like insect bites - appear, and
disappear again within a few hours. A special treatment of the area is not necessary, but a skin care product
(Neuvaderm-Creme, for example) may be applied.
RECOMMENDATION FOR THE PATIENT
The patient should not scratch the area under any circumstance, even if a slight scab has formed. During
the treatment period the patient should not be exposed to UV light. The treated area should be covered, if
possible. Sun protection products even with a high protection factor do not suffice. The slight scab that
forms after a couperose treatment can be covered with make-up after a few days. Sports activities should be
refrained from. Please arrange for a reexamination after 2 - 3 weeks.
HOW OFTEN MUST THE TREATMENT BE REPEATED?
Sometimes vessels are strongly visible through the light skin that is not pigmented yet after the first
treatment, they usually disappear after the second session. After the first treatment deeper located vessels
often become visible. Very large vessels may be "re-channeled" and fill with blood again. The number of
treatments differs between one and six, depending on the individual case, the state of connective tissue and
the size of the vessels. A couperose treatment is usually completed within one and maximally three sessions.
After-treatments are usually shorter than the initial one and should only be performed once the scab has
completely fallen off. This is usually the case after approximately 3 weeks. Complete failure does rarely
occur. Light non-pigmented areas disappear after some time.
Caution: The manufacturer cannot be held liable for an erroneous choice of settings. The information above
is strictly based on experience and should be considered as a recommendation only. The correct settings
depend on the tissue consistency, the age of the patient and the placement of the neutral electrode, the
used electrodes, kind of mode and settings.
