Fetal MRI Reporting Template, Montreal Children’s/Carpineta
MRI ABDOMEN AND PELVIS, NON-CONTRAST (FETAL MRI)
History: 35 year old G1P0 woman. 18 week ultrasound suspected vermian abnormality.
FINDINGS:
Multiplanar, multisequence MRI of the fetus was performed without contrast, with attention to the
fetal CNS. Examination in follow-up to, and correlated with, report of obstetrical ultrasound
performed at Jewish General Hospital and dated 19-01-2010.
Examination performed at 25 2/7 weeks gestational age, as per assessed gestational age from
the above ultrasound.
The cervix is long at 40mm and closed. The placenta is high and posterior. Note made of a
normal 3 vessel cord without evident loops or knots. The amount of amniotic fluid is grossly
appropriate.
There is a singleton live intrauterine gestation, the gender of which appears to be female.
Current fetal lie is vertex, with spine to the left.
At the level of the fetal brain, the degree of gyration and sulcation is as expected for the stated
gestational age. No structural abnormalities are noted in the cerebral hemispheres. On T1weighted images, myelination is as expected. The corpus callosum is present and normally
formed. The brainstem and cerebellum including vermis have a normal appearance with
transverse cerebellar diameter of 26 mm, in the expected range for gestational age. The
craniocervical junction is unremarkable with no sign of Chiari or other malformation.
The ocular globes have a normal and symmetrical appearance with interorbital distance of 25.5
mm, in the normal range for gestational age. The fetal face shows no midline cleft or other
abnormality.
The fetal spine is unremarkable. No sign of scoliosis or open neural tube defect.
At the fetal chest and abdomen, note is made of visceral situs solitus with all the developed
organs demonstrating proportional size and expected signal intensity on all sequences.
Specifically, stomach, gallbladder, kidneys and urinary bladder are well seen and normal in
appearance.
Evaluation of the fetal extremities is limited due to fetal motion artefact. No gross limb
deficiencies are noted, but subtle findings would be better assessed by ultrasound.
IMPRESSION:
Examination within normal limits, including no evident lesion of the fetal CNS.
