Subject: Patient Reference Group
Dear all,
Firstly I would like to thank you all for agreeing to be part of the Alexandra & Crestview
Surgeries Patient Reference Group. We now have approx 20 members and I am still
receiving expressions of interest from many patients.
A couple of years ago the Practice attempted to set-up something similar - a Patient
Participation Group - but because of the amount of time required from the patients and the
surgery, also the lack of direction, this didn't really take off.
Current Government directives heavily emphasise the importance of patient consultation, this
is something which we fully support as we have always tried to encompass the patients
opinion when changing and improving things in the surgery.
As you will note from this e-mail I have hidden each of your e-mail addresses this is for the sake of confidentiality. In order for us to discuss items as a group I
would need permission from each of you to disclose your name and e-mail
addresses to each other. If you are agreeable to this please just send a short email back to me.
One of the items we need to discuss as a group is the notification I've received
from Healtheast CIC (Community Interest Company) about the funding which is becoming
available for groups such as ourselves. Once we have some ideas of what the funding could
be used for i.e. to facilitate educational meetings for patients, we can then apply for the
funding.
There are some guidelines which we need to follow:
 It should not be a re-occurring cost.
 It should not used for commissioning direct primary or secondary care services
 It should not be a substitute for the practices own contribution to costs
What it should be used for is:
 Promoting healthy lifestyles (physical and mental health)
 Supporting self care
 Further developing communication
 Enhancing the patient environment
It would be great to hear your views and opinions - but also to share them as a group, so
please don't forget to confirm that you are happy for your name and e-mail address to be
visible to the rest of the group.
Many Thanks & Kind Regards,
Christina
