6th GRADE - ART SYLLABUS – Mr. GALLIMORE Teacher: Mr. Kevin Gallimore Email: kevin_gallimore@rockbridge.k12.va.us MRMS Phone Number: 540-463-3129 Course Description: This is a 9 week exploratory class that will introduce various aspects of art through hands-on projects, collaborative assignments, video presentations, and lectures. We will work on basic drawing skills (shading, 1 & 2 point perspective, still-life, etc.) throughout the course. We’ll cover water-color painting, calligraphy, color-wheel theory, design projects, craft projects, ceramics, some art history, art terminology…and much more. 6th Grade Art classes will also focus on art as it relates to the core subject areas, and will reinforce key math, science, history, and literature concepts. There will be a weekly (in-class) written assignment. We will collaborate with the core subject teachers on projects throughout the class term. Requirements: EFFORT & Participation – follow instructions and stay on task Responsibility – for all materials, tools, work area, and especially personal behavior Grading: Each project is graded on a 10 point scale. My biggest expectations are toward putting forth good effort and following directions, and NOT on creating perfect works of art. The focus is to increase the overall art skills, art appreciation, and confidence of the individual student. Class Materials: Several #2 pencils (NOT mechanical pencils) A sketch book (this may be a drawing pad or typing paper in a loose-leaf folder…whatever works) Student Behavior: Come to class on time every day, prepared, and ready to work. Be respectful of yourself, your school, and of others (I simply DO NOT tolerate disrespectful behavior in my classroom). Stay in your assigned area and follow instructions. Clean up as required (there are daily cleaning duties). NO food or gum in the art room – ever! Strict adherence to all MRMS and County policies will be enforced. Please feel free to contact me using the school e-mail given or the MRMS phone number. If you have any concerns, ideas, or simply would like to discuss our art program…I’d love to hear from you. This is going to be an outstanding and fun class! I truly look forward to this school year and working with you in art. I have read, fully understand, and will comply with the expectations listed in the above syllabus for Art class. ------------------------------------(Student Signature) ----------------------------------(Guardian Signature) Please return to Mr. Gallimore by Friday, August 27th.
