Release of Children: Anyone approved to pick up your child should be listed on your Emergency Information Form You need to have someone other than the parents listed as an emergency contact. This is a state requirement. We will not accept any child without someone other than the parents listed for an emergency). The site director needs to be notified when someone else will be picking up your child. Even if it is an emergency, the site director needs your permission to release your child to someone other than you. Written documentation naming the person(s) authorized by the parent/guardian for the release of the child(ren) is required for dismissals. Identification must be presented and verified before any child is released from the program. The SSCCP has to assume that both parents have the right to pick up your child, unless you give the site director a copy of a court order stating otherwise. There will need to be a plan of action for handling the non-custodial parent who arrives to pick up your child. Without a court order, the Site Director cannot refuse a parent. If the site director has a court order and a non-custodial parent tries to pick up the child, the site director will call the custodial parent. If the non-custodial parent leaves with the child, the site director will immediately call the police and report the situation. The Site Director will not place the other children at risk in a confrontation with the non-custodial parent. 7. Release of Children: It is very important to the SSCCP that your child arrives home safely. Therefore, if the person who arrives to pick up your child appears intoxicated or otherwise incapable of bringing your child home safely, the site director will call the other parent or the emergency contact. If this situation occurs a second time, it will be grounds for terminating care in the SSCCP for your child. 8. In case of illness or discipline problems, a parent/guardian is required to come IMMEDIATELY to pick up the child. If the child is not picked up he/she will not be permitted to attend the School Site Child Care program on the following day. 9. EMERGENCY CLOSINGS: State of Emergency: The program will close at the time school closes and parents are asked to pick up their child (ren) as soon as possible. North Star will remain open until the last child is picked up, however we ask that parents arrive as soon as possible, for the safety of the children and staff. Early Dismissal: Scenario #1: State of Emergency: We would need to leave North Star however, if the Boys & Girls Club does not close we will be able to offer care at the Fraim Boys & Girls Club. We are not able to provide transportation to Fraim. A parent would have to pick his/her child(ren) up at North Star and drive them to Fraim. In case of gunfire in the community, priority is given to getting the children into the building as quickly as possible. Then 911 will be called, and the children will be kept inside for the remainder of the day. FIRE EVACUATION Fire drills will be administered twice a month. As in all fire drills, children will not be permitted to collect coats, toys, or any other personal items. As part of their orientation to the SSCCP, the children will be taught to stop anything they are doing when they hear the fire alarm, and meet their teacher immediately at a designated place. A Site Director will be responsible for the children’s orientation to the program. Exits, hallways, and other evacuation routes will be clear at all times to permit prompt and safe exit from the building. Regardless of the apparent size of the fire or the amount of smoke, the staff will promptly lead the children out of the building using the closest and safest exit. Staff and children will not stop to take clothing, toys, etc. A Site Director will be the last person to leave the building, after checking the bathrooms, hallways, etc. on the floors used by the SSCCP. After the staff and children are assembled at the designated meeting area, a Site Director will check attendance records and account for all children. When and if the Fire Department determines it is safe to re-enter the school, staff will lead the children back into the building. WEAPONS Children possessing a dangerous weapon will not be permitted in the SSCCP. A dangerous weapon is a gun, knife, razor, karate stick, metal knuckle, or any other object that by the manner it is used or intended to be used is capable of inflicting bodily harm. In cases that clearly involve a gun, or which involve any other weapon used in a threatening manner, the police will be called and the child will be subject to immediate disciplinary procedures including suspension or expulsion from the SSCCP. BOMB THREAT In the event a staff member receives a bomb threat, a Site Director will: Attempt to get the maximum information from the caller. Call the police and the Boys & Girls Clubs of DE administrative offices. UNDER THE FOLLOWING CURCUMSTANCES THE SSCCP BUILDING WILL BE EVACUATED: An adult made the call. The caller states the general location and/or the time of explosion. A Site Director decides the nature of the call warrants evacuations.
