Three teachers from the school have won the contest this year. April 15, 2009. Amazing surprises continue to happen at Albemarle Road Elementary School. For the third time this school year, a teacher has won the V101.9 FM Terrific Teacher Tuesday contest. Second-grade teacher Tonya Reed was selected by the community as the April winner. “It was a great surprise,” Reed said. “I feel honored and special that the community cares that much of me.” Community members and radio listeners voted for Reed through the WBAV-FM Web site. The radio station and other local sponsors finance the contest to give the community an opportunity to recognize a teacher who goes above and beyond in the classroom. “Tonya brings energy in this building everyday,” said Principal Stan Frazier. “I've never seen a teacher driven like she is towards making sure that all her students are successful. Teachers like Tonya are God's gift to the world.” Her students adore her. She taught most of them last year as their first grade teacher. “I want to prepare them for greatness,” she said. “My students are the future doctors, lawyers, teachers and anything they want to be. I always tell them you can succeed if you put your mind to it.” Terrific Teacher Tuesday rewards one elementary teacher for their dedication to education during the months of September through May.
