Purpose:
To appropriately process anesthesia claims for OB Services
Policy:
Anesthesia Time:
 For OB cases, anesthesia provider will indicated hands-on-time and total time on each
claim.
 For OB services, we will reimburse hands on time only.
(Regular surgery anesthesia, the total time is reimbursed).
Anesthesia - Vaginal Delivery Only, 01960:
The base rate will be reimbursed.
Anesthesia – Cesarean Delivery Only, 01961:
The base rate will be reimbursed.
OB Anesthesia, 01967 and 01968:
For a planned vaginal delivery, provider will bill 01967 neuraxial labor anesthesia
(placement of epidural catheter) and the base rate for the placement will be reimbursed.
Following the neuraxial anesthesia it is determined a cesarean delivery will be required.
The provider will be reimbursed the base rate of 01968, anesthesia for the cesarean
section in addition to 01967, neuraxial anesthesia.
