A Governor challenged about the progress of different groups of pupils. Mr Whittaker explained that the progress of different groups of pupils will be analysed during the summer break and reported to the first Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Committee meeting in the Autumn Term. These outcomes will also be used to inform the 2014-15 SIP priorities. A Governor questioned why the proportion of pupils making above expected progress in En, Ma, Sc and ICT decreased in 201314. Mr Whittaker explained that this will be a focus for further analysis at school, cohort and individual pupil levels, he also explained that there have been changes to the moderation of Teacher Assessments in 2013-14 which could have impacted on the proportion of pupils making expected and above expected progress. Governors asked for an additional Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Committee meeting at the start of the Autumn Term to work on the 2013-14 pupil outcomes. Resolved: That an additional meeting be arranged for early September Action Point: Additional meeting to be arranged 5.2 Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Mr Whittaker circulated copies of the initial analysis of EYFS outcomes in 2013-14, he explained that these are based on the number of statements achieved in the Prime Areas of Learning using the Early Support Developmental Journal. Mr Whittaker circulated copies of the Early Support Developmental Journal and examples of the developmental statements, he explained that EYFS pupils’ learning and development is recorded as ‘emerging’, ‘developing’ or ‘achieved’ and these are reviewed each term. Mr Whittaker circulated examples of these records for two pupils. A Governor questioned as to whether we compare the progress of children in EYFS with other children nationally. Mr Whittaker explained that almost all our children are working significantly below age-related expectations in EYFS. Mr Whittaker explained that this is a new method based on a widely used developmental model. A Governor challenged how we know if each child’s progress is good enough. Mr Whittaker explained that it will be important to track each child’s learning and progress over the whole of EYFS, he suggested that the Governors could join a pupil progress meeting for one of the EYFS classes to deepen their understanding of how pupils’ learning and development is assessed and tracked in EYFS. Resolved: Governors to attend an EYFS pupil progress meeting Action Point: NW to arrange for Governors to attend a pupil progress meeting 6.
