LPS Parent Council Meeting Monday 28th May Present: Jill Doyle (DHT), Yvonne Dickson (Vice Chair), Susan Welsh (Class Teacher), Gilly Marshall (Chair), Leigh Miller, Lesley Scott, Jacqueline Small, Lisa Watt (Treasurer), Karen Smith, Julie MacBeath, Lorraine Maguire, Jeanette Clark (Secretary), Lesley Scott, Andy Oag, Steven Clark, Jane Owens Apologies: Julie Fox, Charlotte Kirk, Carole Booth, Ingrid Buchanan Previous Minutes Minutes from last meeting were approved Finance Report Account currently sitting at just under £2000 with an additional £100 expected as income from the spree books. All commented that the spree books had been disappointing this year, a new approach for issue could be considered for future years. Almost £880 will be used to fund buses to the Pantomime. It was agreed that £950 will be transferred to the school to cover the cost of repairs to the current Willow dome & create a new one. Office Bearers The following office bearers were nominated, seconded and elected. Gilly Marshall – Chair Yvonne Dickson – Vice Chair Lisa Watt – Treasurer Jeanette Clark – Secretary Discussion held with regard to shadowing key roles. Autumn Disco 30th October Flyers have been issued with requests for tickets starting to be received. Lorraine confirmed that she will collect & issue tickets (Gilly to share template from previous year). Jill to arrange for reminder to be issued w/c 22nd October. Lesley to confirm with Ann regarding her husband DJ’ing the event. Gilly to investigate insurance requirements. Yvonne to purchase juice & crisps while Lesley will source prizes (7 in total for best dressed in each class). Volunteers from the Parent Council are required to support the event. It was agreed that adult helpers can dress up if they wish. Actions Arising Lorraine to collect requests & issue tickets. Yvonne to purchase juice & crisps. Lesley to confirm DJ with Ann & arrange prizes. Jill to issue a reminder flyer. Blingo Night 28th November Bonnyrigg Rose Social Club is booked with doors opening at 7pm with eyes down at 7.30pm. Karen confirmed that a number of prizes have already been sourced. Parent Council members were asked to approach local businesses prizes (ideally cash donations of £50 & advise Karen. Donors will be mentioned on flyers. Karen will arrange the flyer design & tickets. Tickets will be on sale 1 st November with Parent Council members to sell. A request for raffle prizes was also made. Actions Arising Karen to arrange flyers/tickets. All to source prizes/cash donations & confirm to Karen All to source raffle prizes Calendars Pictures have been taken & Lisa is co-ordinating with support from Gillian Lyall. Agreed that these will be sold at Parents Evening. Lisa to confirm if support is required to sell. They will also be held in the office for parents/relatives to view & advertised via website. Final date for order is generally 2nd week in December. Jill to check if a discount can be received for the printers via Diane O’Malley (nursery). Actions Arising Lisa to confirm if help is required to sell at Parent’s evening. Jill to check & confirm printer discount. AOB New ideas for fundraising were discussed. We raised almost £7000 last year & target would be to do the same but recognised that Christmas Fair & Summer Fair are not scheduled for this year. Ideas suggested include: Family quiz night Adult only quiz night (bring a bottle) Xmas coffee morning Spring Fair (arts/crafts) Car boot Gilly mentioned the new noticeboard which has been installed. Photos of members to be arranged at a future meeting. Parent reps to be associated with school stages were discussed, with following agreed P7 – Lisa Watt P6 – Karen Smith & Dawn P5 – Yvonne Dickson P4 – Jacqueline Small P3 – Steve Clark P2 – Jane Owens P1 – Julie MacBeath & Leigh Miller Nursery – Jeanette Clark & Charlotte Kirk Gilly raised Parent Council Training advising Gilly and Jeanette were attending 2-part Essentials training course on 22nd & 29th October. Yvonne & Jeanette agreed to attend Fundraising course on 21st November. Photography consent forms were discussed. Current consent form gives rights to Mid Lothian council, not the school. Jill to check if this is correct or if an alternative form can be arranged. It was also mentioned that link to Robinswood on twitter can be viewed by public and showed photographs where children could be identified, again Jill will review.
