Junior Leadership Georgetown 2015-2016 Application
Junior Leadership Georgetown is a program created to develop the next generation of Georgetown community
leaders. This eight month program for high school juniors and seniors is designed to strengthen participants’
leadership skills, community awareness and involvement. Junior Leadership Georgetown will provide participants
with quality, relevant leadership training along with knowledge of community, needs and opportunities. It allows
participants to form effective relationships with current, past, and future leaders in the community.
Goals:
1. To prepare high school juniors and seniors for future leadership roles in the community
2. To develop and strengthen leadership skills
3. To increase understanding of community needs and opportunities
4. To develop community pride
5. To motivate students for volunteer activities
6. To prepare participants for future leadership roles in the community
Eligibility:
1. Reside within the Georgetown ISD boundaries
2. Be classified as a junior or senior for the 2015-16 school year
3. Must have parental approval and support to attend 4:15 – 6:30 PM generally the third Wednesday each
month October 2015– May 2016
4. Must attend kickoff retreat (1/2 day Saturday/1/2 day Sunday) in September 20 (9:00 - 1:00) and
September 21 (12:00 - 5:00)
Requirements: (these are non-negotiable)
1. Complete the application and return to Chamber of Commerce
2. Must be committed to completion of the program and attendance at all meetings
3. Must actively participate in all scheduled meetings
4. Have transportation to and from activities
5. Must be committed to participate in Fall Carnival (October) and at least one other volunteer activity
with JLG during the year
Program:
1. Retreat – a local retreat will be held on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon in September.
2. Monthly meetings – the group will meet the third Wednesday of each month from 4:15 – 6:30 pm at
various locations around Georgetown. These meetings will consists of tours, speakers, team building
exercises, workshops, etc. The requirements of other activities do not take priority one Wednesday per
month; participants must be committed to be on time and stay the entire length of the meeting.
3. Volunteer Activities – the group will meet on selected days to perform volunteer work for various
organizations in the community.
Applications must be returned to the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce on Stadium Drive, attention Karen
Sheldon. Please include a $30.00 non-refundable application fee*.
