The following position is available at Georgetown University Position number 20141929 Responsibilities & Qualifications: Animal Care Supervisor, Division of Comparative Medicine The Georgetown University Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) oversees the Research Resource Facility (RRF) which supports animal research and teaching activities for the Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) and the Main Campus. The DCM’s mission is to provide state of the art facilities and quality animal care to support biomedical research and teaching missions of the University, and to comply with all applicable animal welfare regulations and guidelines. DCM also advises and educates researchers, staff and students on animal models and biomethodology while promoting best practices for the responsible use of animals. Georgetown University’s animal care and use program is accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International. The Animal Care Supervisor *helps administer the day-to-day operations of the Division of Comparative Medicine’s animal facility, including direct supervision of the husbandry staff. Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Supervisor has duties including but not limited to: - Assign personnel to assure timely completion of daily husbandry tasks. - Monitor the quality of animal care and the documentation of husbandry duties. - Assess workloads and schedule adherence by the husbandry staff. - Manage the department’s administration, including training, equipment allocation, and supply inventory and ordering. - Provide rotating weekend and holiday supervision with on-call coverage. - Work with the Director and Facility Manager to identify and prioritize husbandry-related responsibilities. - Assure the smooth function of the facility with limited direct supervision. - Serve in the absence of co-supervisors and/or facility manager regarding operations of the facility and husbandry responsibilities. *Requirements* - Completion of some college course work – preference for Bachelor's degree in a science related field. - At least two years of experience in the laboratory animal science field -- combination of education and experience will be considered. - Experience working with non-human primates. - Demonstrated ability to supervise people and have a working knowledge of animal research facility operations. - Excellent computer and interpersonal skills. - Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. - Preference for American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Registered Laboratory Animal (LAT) level. Candidates with only Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT level) certification will be considered if their credentials are otherwise strong.
