The student achievement award is designed to publicly honor students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in one of the following categories: I. Academics II. Exemplary service to others III. Character Examples (but not an exhaustive list) of achievements that would merit this award: A. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I. Ten quarters of straight A’s (grades 3-8) Perfect (or high) scores on the SAT or ACT (minimum composite score in the 95th percentile) Winners of district-wide competitions such as spelling bees and speech contests. Scoring at the advanced level on four or five out of five of the Ohio Graduation Tests Exemplary service to others, including heroic acts which may involve overcoming personal hardships Three consecutive years of perfect school attendance, with no absences, no tardies, and no sign-outs. Best of the graduating class, based on GPA. Wildcat of the Year (Junior High) State or National recognition in the areas listed above (academics, service, and character). Who is eligible? Any Franklin City Schools’ student, including Franklin students attending the Warren County Career Center. What do students receive? Students receive a State Achievement pin, a personalized Franklin City School District Student Achievement certificate, board and public recognition, and media coverage. Who can submit a nomination? Nominations may be submitted by fellow students, teachers, Board Members, counselors, principals, bus drivers, cooks, aides, librarians, etc. Anyone associated with Franklin City Schools who is aware of student achievement may submit a nomination. Who makes the award decision? A District Student Achievement Team, which includes students, parents, community members, Board members, and school administrators meet during the school year. At each meeting, the team will consider any nominations that have been submitted. When are awards given? Awards will be presented at School Board meetings, 6 p.m. on the (usually) fourth Monday of the month in the Board room at Hampton Bennett.. Be sure to include as much specific information as possible about the student. Please cite specific examples regarding academics, job(s), extra-curriculars, good citizenship (including exemplary disciplinary history), hardships overcome, etc. How do I nominate a student? 1. Fill out the information on the other side of the form. Please refer to at least one of the above categories (I, II or III and letter A – I). Please provide supporting documentation for the categories selected. 2. Please keep the nomination confidential and send the completed form in a secure envelope to Steve Buerschen at Hampton Bennett. 3. The team will review the nominations monthly 4. Should your nominee be selected, the team will notify you, the student, and his/her parents. 5. If the committee feels that the nomination does not meet the criteria, the nomination will be returned to the nominator so that the student might receive building-level recognition.
