MMADD MYAF GUIDELINES FOR ART
1. All school going pupils as well as young artists not older than 25 years may enter works of art in
one of the following categories: SCULPTURE, CERAMICS, TEXTILES, PAINTING AND MIXED
MEDIA.
2. All art work must be original and the participant’s own work. All art work must be mounted – the
frame not less than 50 mm wide around the artwork, (except where the painting is done on a
heavy hardboard background). In that case the painting may be handed in as is. For practical
reasons, art entries should preferably not be framed professionally.
3. Please use the attached identification tags when submitting works. These must correspond to the
information on the entry forms. One tag to be secured to the back of the artwork and one for
displaying with the work as information on the front.
4. All works of art must be delivered to the KWV Art Gallery (c/o Long and Kohler Street, Montagu) by
12 noon on Tuesday 20th July 2012. Adjudication will take place on Wednesday 21st and the art
works must please be removed on Sunday 22nd July before 14h00. (This excludes category
winners and drama posters which will be on display the following week at the DRAMA section of
the festival – 25th – 28th July at Montagu Primary School)
5. Entry fee is R40 per item. Entries cannot be accepted without the entry fee and artist’s details
6. Encourage your pupils to use as many different media and techniques e.g. graphic art, drawing,
painting and collage, as well as a combination of media and techniques.
7. Subject matter:- own choice and free interpretation of subjects. Their approach may be realistic or
abstract.
8. The idea is not for the Art-and-Photography to be regarded as an additional activity but that it
should form part of your project planning for the new school year.
9. Let the Montagu Youth Arts Festival be the culmination of your learners’ creative art process.
10. It is a festive event where they have the opportunity to exhibit their unique art work to the public
and their peers.
11. Young artists need the exposure and interaction to develop creative skills and to explore a new
world of ideas and possibilities beyond the confined space of their classroom.
