Clemens, Special Agent in Charge (SAC), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Division, is pleased to announce that Armando Gutierrez is the recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award. Tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., SAC Clemens will present the award to Mr. Gutierrez at the FBI office, 16320 NW 2nd Avenue, North Miami Beach, Florida. The media is invited to attend the ceremony. He is also the Managing Partner of Florida Broadcasting Media, a Latin radio station in Polk County, Florida. Mr. Gutierrez has been involved with numerous activities that have significantly impacted the community. A young boy, Devin Alvarez, was featured on Channel 10’s Operation Magnum Force, seeking assistance from the community to finance back surgery to save his life. Upon hearing the plea for help, Mr. Gutierrez immediately took steps to assist Devin and his mother. Through his community contacts, Mr. Gutierrez raised more than $40,000 for Devin’s surgery. Devin will also be at the ceremony tomorrow. Mr. Gutierrez assisted a local Haitian family in their efforts to provide open heart surgery for their 4-year-old son. Hans Roldino had recently immigrated to the United States and his parents did not have the money for such a costly operation. Once again, Mr. Gutierrez raised money in the community so that Hans could have the operation. Mr. Gutierrez raised over $20,000 for Y-100’s Here’s Help Program, a residential and outpatient drug rehabilitation program designed to assist teenagers in their efforts to become drug free. Teenagers participating in the program receive medical, psychological and educational resources needed to combat their codependency on illicit drugs. As a member of the FBI’s Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, Mr. Gutierrez was the catalyst behind the Association’s efforts to provide relief support to FBI families impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Within two days of the hurricane, Mr. Gutierrez along with other Miami residents delivered a truck load of needed supplies to FBI families residing in the effected areas. In addition, Mr. Gutierrez assisted in bring 18 tractor trailers filled with relief supplies to the Gulf Coast. Mr. Gutierrez’ commitment to helping people is exemplary. The FBI is honored to present Mr. Gutierrez with the Director’s Community Leadership Award. ####
