Qiao Ji Mandarin Language & Chinese Culture
MONDAY–THURSDAY Grades K AND Grades 1st–5th
Day: Mon-Thurs. (9/8/14-12/18/14). On Fridays there will be a one-hour abacus math and Chinese
calligraphy study for all grades.
Time: Grades K: 2:40-3:50pm*, room 116. Grades 1st–5th: 2:40-3:50pm*, room A-2

* Depending on enrollment, a second session from 3:50-5:00 may open up.
Description: Our study program incorporates Chinese philosophy, arts and cultural learning. Students will learn
approximately 120 Chinese word characters during the first year of study. The program teaches the traditional form
of Chinese writing, and the material is equivalent to the Chinese immersion program that the SFUSD uses. We are
hoping to develop this program into a six-year K-5 program. This is the first year and each subsequent year we will
add a new grade level of study. Enrollment will automatically roll over for spring semester (no need to reenroll).
Class limit: 30 students.
Enroll in person at Sunset Elementary TU 9/2-FRI 9/5 from 8:30-9:30. Enroll by phone from 10:00am-6:00pm on
9/2-9/5. Registration will close when class is full.

Description: Tree Frog Treks teaches fun interactive after-school science enrichment classes that introduce kids to

Description: "Take My Word For It!" is a word incubator--a place where kids can feel safe and supported while
they grow as writers. Designed especially for young authors, this program reminds kids that when it comes to their

Chess

Description: Studies have found that chess improves test results in reading, science, and math, and encourages
growth in critical cognitive skills. Students at all levels of skill are welcome! Class includes 20 minutes of
instruction and 40 minutes of supervised play. Class maximum is 20.

Enrollment for all enrichment classes begins on Wednesday 9/3/14 and ends Friday 9/5/14 at midnight or
when MAX enrollment is met, whichever comes first.
All enrichment classes begin the week of September 8, 2014. All enrichment classes end the week of
December 15, 2014.
All enrichment classes have enrollment caps. Enrollment will be closed after max enrollment cap is met.
Siblings must be enrolled individually – NO EXCEPTIONS!
Enrichment classes have class minimums. If the minimum enrollment for a class is NOT met, the class will be
canceled. You will be alerted by the Sunset Program Coordinator (Carrie Davis) and refunded by provider.
All enrichment classes have a late pick-up policy. Parents will get specific details from provider. You will be
asked for emergency contact information during the enrollment process. If your child/ren are NOT enrolled in
the After School Learning Program, they MUST picked up AT 3:50 PM at the designated classroom.
Child/ren in the Excel After School Learning Program should be picked up at their usual Excel pick-up
location between 5:45 pm and 6:00 pm. At 3:50 pm the Enrichment class providers will escort your child/ren
to the Excel After School Learning Program, where program staff will check them in.
Enrichment classes follow the school calendar. When school is closed, no enrichment classes take place.
