Principal’s Message
October 2015
Welcome Back! We are excited about the start of another school year. I would like to introduce the
new staff members at Bishop Murray High School. New teachers include: Mr. Olver (Quad), Ms.
Moberly (Grade 9 Home Room), Ms. Lang (Transition/LAT), Mr. Lewandoski (Gr. 6/7/8) and Ms.
Wareing, our new secretary.
Last year we had the following staff members leave the Bishop Murray Community: Mr. Moroz,
Mr. Pilon, Mr. Buzinski and Ms. Zerr. We ask that God bless them in their new placements in
schools throughout our division.
We are also looking forward to hosting Nursing students from the University of Saskatchewan.
These nursing students are completing their practicum placements at our school and they will be
supporting our students and staff as they complete their studies.
At Bishop Murray we like to gather as a community. We began the school year with an Opening
Mass and BBQ on September 16th. We will host a Thanksgiving Mass and school wide Harvest
Meal for students, staff and invited guests on October 8th. The meal that we will serve will include
food that is grown and harvested by our students.
A reminder that we will be holding student/parent/guardian/teacher meetings on October 15th and
16th. The homeroom teachers will be contacting you to invite you to the meetings. Please make a
plan to meet and discuss your son’s/daughter’s progress in their classes.
Please see our school system’s website @ www.gscs.sk.ca for more information about our school
and upcoming activities.
I would like wish everyone a successful year and God’s blessing to all members of the Bishop
Murray Community.

Chaplain’s Chit - Chat :
It’s hard to believe we are already in October! The school year is well under way and the leaves
are turning colours signaling the end of summer and the start of winter. Our garden plots were
fruitful this summer and we will have enough potatoes for our Harvest Dinner before Thanksgiving.
This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate as a Bishop Murray Family and thank God for the
harvest as well and the gifts of our staff, students and the many partners in our community.
Halloween will be upon us soon which means it’s time to gear up for our Scare Hunger Campaign.
We will be collecting non-perishable food items to give to the Saskatoon Food Bank. If you have
donations you can drop them off at the main office or bring them at Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Those students who choose to be involved in this project will have an opportunity to attend WE Day
2016 after Christmas. We earn our place by doing good things in our community. We are so proud
of the efforts of our students.
I extend many blessings to the families this Thanksgiving season. We are grateful for the support
you give our students and we are thankful you have entrusted us to your care.
Have a wonderful fall season and remember, God loves you and so do I.
Melanie LePage, Teacher Chaplain

Student Handbook - Over the past few weeks students and staff members reviewed the Bishop Murray
Student Handbook. The Student Handbook describes the opportunities that our school provides as well as
the rules regarding appropriate behavior.
SCHOOL FEES: School fees are $50.00 and help fund student activities that are important
to the well-being of our students. School fees can be paid during StudentParent/Guardian-Teacher Interviews in the form of cash or cheque.
Parental Contact is an important part of how things are done at Bishop Murray. It is our
hope that parents/guardians feel free to contact their
whenever there is information to be shared. We know that
complex and filled with many issues. Open and honest
school and home is critical to ensuring that our students
support from all of us.

Did you know you could earn a high school credit in one month?
Bishop Murray High School offers a Block and One Room School program where credits can be earned over
a 20-day period. These classes can offer students an opportunity to improve their grade twelve standing.
Students needing only a few credits can work towards their matriculation. To be eligible, students must be
under 22 years of age as of enrolment.
Around Our School: Noon Activities - Bishop Murray is very happy to offer in
partnership with the College of Nursing a noon lunch program in the gym every MondayWednesday starting at 12:15. This is a supervised gym time with University students
providing games, activities, a drink and a snack.
HOMEROOM GUIDELINES: Students who take advantage of homeroom time
are much more likely to be successful. Homeroom offers students the extra help needed
to complete homework assignments and keep up with their work. It begins at 2:30pm
and ends at 3:05pm.
