This year’s RCN/HCA Conference will be held on
Wednesday 3 June at Solihull Hospital. 8:30 – 16:30

Moodle:
For all non-clinical staff via Moodle – Lifesaver Award winning Training
An estimated 60,000 people each year in the UK have an out-of-hospital cardiac
arrest and, sadly, less than 10% of those people will survive. Yet, if a bystander is
able to start CPR they could double a person's chances of survival
The Resuscitation Council (UK) has combined forces with award-winning production
company UNIT9, to develop Lifesaver a live-action movie you play like a game.
It shows you how to save someone's life. It throws you into the heart of the action,
changing what happens in movies showing real people in real places. It was written
and directed by six-time BAFTA/Emmy nominee Martin Percy, and features the
actress Daisy Ridley (recently named lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII). You learn
by doing: do it wrong, and see the
consequences; do it right, and save a life.

As part of ongoing assessments the following Moodle courses will be updated on the
13th February 2015.
Staff who are mid way through the courses listed below at the time of the
update will lose any progress in relation to that course.
It is therefore recommended that if you are working through any of these courses
that they are completed by 13th February 2015.
New courses will be available to commence on the same day following the update,
this should hopefully minimise any disruption to this service.

Please ensure that you have completed the course by 13th February 2015 to secure
your work
Please be aware that although at present Mandatory face to face training with the
exception of Resuscitation and Corporate Induction is on hold due to Gold
Command, all Moodle Mandatory Training is available as normal.
Please ensure that you complete the evaluation and certificate stage or your training
will not be recorded. For our e-learning packages visit Moodle which can be found
under M on the intranet, or on the Faculty of Education website. Remember, you’ll
need your payroll number to log on.

 Fire – all staff need to complete their fire training each year and this can be
done every other year on-line.
 Assertiveness course for all staff
 Resuscitation course for non-clinical staff
 Mental Capacity Act –This module is now available for staff to access. It will
help to develop knowledge and understanding of the application of the Mental
Capacity Act (2005). To Access please see under Mandatory Training,
SAFEGUARDING, Safeguarding: Mental Capacity Act.
 VITAL for Adult Nurses 2014 is open for every Registered Adult Nurse
working in the hospital or satellite settings (with the exception of Community)
across the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) to complete.
Topics include Falls, Dementia and Confusion (which is a new topic) Patient
Observations, MEWS and SBAR. For any questions about VITAL please

Foundation in Leadership and Management level 6 and 7
This programme has been specifically designed for our managers. These core
modules of the BSc (Hons) Heathcare Practice will enable learners to develop
leadership skills and fulfil their potential to become an exceptional leaders.

Appraising the Clinical Evidence Base for Practice Development.
This module gives nurses and other professionals who need top up points to attain
degree level, the opportunity to undertake a research methods module accredited
with Staffordshire University, delivered by the Faculty of Education, HEFT.
The course consists of 15 hours (2 full study days) mandatory and 5 optional hours
with the Library staff. There are also 135 hours allocated to self study
