“Past, Present, Future Nerve Repair”

This talk will explore Nerve Repair in the past, present, and future. We will cover past
major breakthroughs in understanding nerve anatomy and function. We will also address
present concepts of nerve repair including functional anatomy, classification of injuries,
key concepts in repair, tension of the nerve repair, nerve grafting concepts, timing of the
nerve repair, primary vs. secondary repair, and technique of repair- epineurial vs. grouped
fascicular repair. Finally we will discuss future nerve repair methods such as tissue
engineering and nerve regeneration.

developed a low-cost system for performing real-time ultrasound examinations over great
distances, using a satellite-based Internet connection. The system and its applications in
rural and emergency medicine will be discussed.
