Develop and Utilize Human Potential
Creation of Qatar Research Institutes
The Qatar Research Institutes will be established in partnership with different national stakeholders to form a network of centers to address the national needs of the state of
Qatar.
Recognising the importance of building national capacity in Science and research, three
Research Institutes will be created as follows:
1. Qatar Biomedical Research Institute
2. Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute
3. Qatar Computing Research Institute
To develop local scientists that will lead Qatar Research institutes, several capacity building programs have set up including Qatar Science Leadership Program which fosters promising Qatari science graduates to become future research leaders by arranging internships and higher degrees.
2
Develop and Utilize Human Potential
Qatar Biomedical Research Institute
Goal:
The goal of Qatar Biomedical Research Institute is to deliver personalised medicine that can mitigate or eliminate diseases of high prevalence in Qatar and the region such as birth defects, genetic disorders, diabetes and cancer.
Focus:
Qatar Biomedical Research Institute focus on programs of bioscience, engineering and technology research that will lead to new biomarker development, drug discovery and therapeutics vaccines. The implementation of these programs are coordinated with Weill
Cornell Medical College in Qatar, SIDRA Medical and Research center, Hamad Medical
Corporation, Qatar University, Shaffalah Genetics Center and other partnering centers.
