Pleurisy(‫)ذات الجنب‬
(Dhaat al Janb)
Definition
Pleurisy is an inflammation or a swelling of the pleura. The pleura is a
large, thin sheet of tissue (membrane) that wraps around the outer
part of the lungs and lines the inside of the chest cavity.

space. This is called the pleural
space/cavity. Usually it contains
a small amount of fluid. This
fluid helps the two layers of the
pleura glide smoothly past each
other as your lungs breathe air
in and out.
Pleurisy occurs when the two
membranes (two layers of the
pleura) become inflamed and
red as they rub against each
other every time the lungs
expand to breathe in air. This is
usually accompanied by
(Dhaat al Janb)
Symptoms associated with Pleurisy









A sharp pain/stabbing sensation in the chest
Shortness of breath, Rapid, shallow breathing
Cough
Fever and chills
Unexplained weight loss
Sore throat followed by pain and swelling in the joints
Diarrhoea
Vomiting blood
Vaginal discharge

Causes
Viral
Infection is the most common cause of pleurisy. However, many
different conditions can cause pleurisy:
 Pneumotharax – A collapsed lung
 Bacterial infections - Like pneumonia and tuberculosis
 Autoimmune disorders - Like systemic lupus erythematosus (or
drug-induced lupus erythemotatosus) and rheumatoid arthritis.
 Lung cancer and lymphoma
 Other lung diseases - Like Cystic Fibrosis, sarcoidosis, asbestosis,
lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and mesothelioma
 Pulmonary Embolism - A blood clot in the blood vessels that enter
the lungs
 Inflammatory bowel disease – A group chronic diseases that
cause intestinal
inflammation
 Familial Mediterranean fever, an inherited condition that often
causes fever and swelling in the abdomen or lung
 Infection from fungus or parasites
 Heart surgery – In particular a coronary artery bypass graft
 High blood pressure
 Chest injuries
 Aortic dissection – Bleeding in the major artery carrying blood out
of the heart.
Pleurisy can also occur with no illness or infection
Some cases of pleurisy are idiopathic, meaning the cause cannot be
determined.

Pleurisy?
‫عن زيد بن أرقم رضي هللا عنه عن النبي صلى هللا عليه و‬
‫سلم أنه كان ينعت الزيت و الورس من ذات الجنب ‪ ,‬قال‬
‫قتادة ‪ :‬يلده به من الجانب الذي يشتكيه‬
‫)رواه الترمذي(‬
‫و عنه قال ‪ :‬نعت رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه و سلم من ذات‬
‫الجنب ورسا و قسطا و زيتا يلد به‬
‫)رواه ابن ماجه(‬
‫عن أم سلمة رضي هللا عنه قالت ‪ :‬كانت النفساء تقعد على‬
‫عهد رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه و سلم أربعين يوما و كانت‬
‫إحدانا تطلي الورس على وجهها من الكلف ‪.‬‬

‫َو ْرس‪:‬‬
‫«ع» يزرع في اليمن‪ .‬ونباته مثل نبات السِّمْ ِسم‪ .‬فإذا جفّ‬
‫الورْ س‪ ...‬وهو حارّ يابس‬
‫عند إدراكه تفتق‪ ،‬فينتفض منه َ‬
‫في أول الثانية‪ ،‬قابض‪ ،‬له قوّ ة صابغة‪ ،‬ويجلو البهق‬
‫والكلف‪ ،‬وينفع الـ ِح َّكة والب ُُثور والسَّعْ فة والقُوباء‪ ،‬إذا لطخ‬
‫بالورْ س قوّ اه على‬
‫به‪ .‬ويقال إنه من َل ِبس ثو ًبا مصبو ًغا َ‬
‫الباءة‪.‬‬
‫«ج» يسمّى الـحُصّ ‪ .‬وهو شيء أحمر قانئ يشبه الزعفران‬
‫المسحوق‪ .‬وهو حارّ يابس في الدرجة الثانية‪ ،‬قابض لطيف‪،‬‬
‫الوضح‬
‫ينفع من النمش والكلف طالء‪ .‬وإذا شرب نفع من‬
‫َ‬
‫وف َّتت الحصى‪ ،‬ونفع من أوجاع ال ُك َلى والمثانة الباردة‪ .‬وقدر‬
‫ما يشرب منه درهم‪.‬‬
‫«ف» نور أحمر يشبه الزعفران‪ .‬أجوده ما كان يميل إلى‬
‫الصفرة‪ .‬وهو حارّ يابس في الثالثة‪ ،‬ينفع من وجع ال ُك ْلية‬
‫والمثانة‪ ،‬وينظف ال َبدَن‪ .‬وال َّشرْ َبة منه‪ :‬درهم‪.‬‬
‫قال الموفق البغدادي ‪:‬‬
‫ذات الجنب قسمان ‪ :‬حقيقي و هو ورم حاد يعرض في الغشاء‬
‫المستبطن لألعضاء و غير حقيقي و هو ما يعرض في‬
‫نواحي الجنب من رياح غليظة تحتقن بين الصفاقات إال أن‬
‫الوجع في هذا القسم ممدود و في الحقيقي ناخس‬
‫العالج ‪ :‬يأخذ المغالي و الضماد بدقيق الشعير و‬
‫الخطمية البيضاء و زهر البنفسج و أخذ ماء الشعير‬
‫بدهن اللوز ‪.‬‬
‫و إن احتبس البطن فليأخذ فلوس الخيار شنبر‬
‫بالسكر النبات ‪.‬‬
‫قال ابن النفيس ‪:‬‬
‫الفصد في القيفال و استفراغ الخلط الغالب و تليين الطبيعة‬
‫بالحقن اللينة ‪.‬‬
‫الضماد في االبتداء شمع أبيض مغسول و دهن بنفسج مفتران‬
‫‪ ,‬و بعده ضماد منضج في خطمي و بزر كتان و شمع‬
‫أحمر ‪.‬‬
