The Eight Essential Amino Acids
Valine – an important source of nitrogen, an
important component in alanine

Leucine – leucine is the branched chain of

production of proteins.

ability to dissolve visceral fat, the kind of fat
found in the deepest layer of the skin that
does not respond to the usual weight loss

Phenylalanine
– phenylalanine is the
forerunner of tyrosine, the anti-depressant
dopamine norepinephrine, epinephrine and
the skin pigment, melanin. Eating foods rich
in phenylalanine will help.

lethargy, sluggishness, feelings of low morale
and anxiety. It relieves pain and fights
depression.

carboxypeptidase that causes enkephalin

Threonine – is an important ingredient in the

nails. The mucin content in threonine, serine
and proline which account for 20% to 55% of
the total amino acid content in the intestines
is responsible for this activity.
 Threonine is responsible for the growth and
development of liver muscles, skeletal muscles
and small intestines of young animals.
 Threonine may also prevent cancer. This
occurs the process of phosphorylation which
usually occurs on threonine, serine, and
tyrosine residues.
Tryptophan – is a sleep-inducing amino acid which
is an important component in the production of
serotonin, vitamin B3 or niacin, and auxin (a plant
hormone). It is the tryptophan content that’s make
you sleeps. This is attributed to the high serotonin, (a
neurotransmitter that’s calm the brain) and the high
melatonin (a sleep-inducing hormone) levels in the
brain when substantial amount of typtophancontaining foods have been eaten.
 Tryptophan is also used to treat seasonal affected
disorder or SAD and premenstrual disorder, diseases
associated with low levels of serotonin in the brain;
 Prevents the development of bladder cancer.
Methionine – is one of two sulfur-containing
proteinogenic amino acids. Methionine is
important in the manufacture of cycteine,
carnitine, taurine, lecithin, phosphadylcholine,
and other phospholiphides. Improper
conversion of methionine can lead to
atherosclerosis.
o Methonine is used to treat diseases of the
liver especially those caused by carbon
tetrachloride and arsenic.
o Methionine is also known possess the ability
to minimize the spread of the flu virus by
inhibiting their further proliferation in the
body.
Lysine – is a key component is the production
of hormones and enzymes and plays an
important role in collagen production, a
substance that is critical in bone muscle,
cartilage, and skin formation.
 Lysine plays a key role in calcium absorption
by reducing the amount of calcium being
excreted in the urine.
 It promotes the growth of hair, nails, teeth
and bones. It also prevents bone loss that
leads to osteoporosis.

simplex infections, or cold sores.
They are called essential amino acids not
because they are more important than other
amino acids but because it is essential that
they are included in the daily diet since they
are not produced naturally by the body.
FUCOIDAN
Is a substance found in the cell walls of
certain seaweed species that is used
medicinally for a wide variety of health
purposes.
 Fucoidan have been more widely
studied for their ability to heal and
protect the body from acute illness such
as virus to chronic illness like cancer.
 Fucoidan may benefit people under
stress or at risk of liver cirrhosis.
KELP
Are large seaweeds (algae) belonging to
the brown algae (Phaeophyceae) in the
order Laminariales.
 Kelp is a major source of iodine- a
necessary mineral in our bodies. The
thyroid gland, for example, needs iodine
to do its work properly. Yet most of us
are iodine deficient.
