Recently several studies have focused on identifying substances possessing low global warming potential (GWP) as
blowing agents, propellants, and refrigerants, where particular interest has been placed on fluorinated propylene
isomers (HFO). The HFOs most often investigated are R1234ze(E) (trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene; CF3CH=CHF)
and R1234yf (2,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene; CF3CF=CH2), which both possess a GWP < 1 relative to carbon dioxide
[1] based on a 100-year timeframe.
Another fluorinated propene isomer being considered is cis-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R1234ze(Z), CHF=CHCF3, CAS
29118-25-0) which has recently been reported [1] to possess a GWP < 1. Three research groups have published
thermodynamic property measurements of R1234ze(Z), namely: (1) Higashi et al. [2] report the critical temperature,
pressure, and density; vapor pressure measurements over the temperature range 310 K to 420 K; and PvT data over
the temperature range 310 K to 440 K for pressures up to 6 MPa. (2) Tanaka et al. [3] report vapor pressure
measurements over the temperature range 310 K to 410 K and PvT data over the temperature range 310 K to 410 K
for pressures up to 5 MPa. (3) Fedele et al. [4] report vapor pressure measurements over the range 238 K to 372 K.
Two research groups have presented equations of state (EoS) for R1234ze(Z), namely: (1) Brown et al. [5] and Brown
et al. [6] present Peng-Robinson EoS and (2) Akasaka et al. [7] present Fundamental Helmholtz EoS.
As part of the ongoing investigations of HFO isomers by the authors, this paper presents (1) compressed liquid density
measurements over a wide temperature range and pressure up to 35 MPa from the Thermodynamic Properties
Laboratory of the Istituto per le Tecnologie della Costruzione of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (ITC-CNR) and
(2) vapor phase PvT measurements over a wide temperature range for pressures up to 0.43 MPa from the
Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale e Scienze Matematiche of the Università Politecnica delle Marche (UnivPM). In
addition, this paper provides several correlations based on the measured data.
