Djibouti's government is a republic.
Djibouti gained its independence on June 27th, 1977
from France.
The chief of state is president Ismail GUELLEH. (Since
May 8th, 1999)

The first branch is the executive.The president is in this
branch.
The second branch is the legislative. The prime minister,

and Islamic law.
The suffrage age is universal 18.

The unemployment rate in Djibouti is 59%.
Djibouti's major imports are beverages, foods,
transportation equipment, chemicals, petroleum
products.

With the scorching temperatures water is scarce.

smallest countries in
Africa.
Djibouti is located in
east Africa or the
horn of Africa.
Flag
•The Blue stands for the sea and the sky, green is for the
earth and white is for peace. Green and blue are also the
colors of the two main population groups, the Afars and
Issas. The red star recalls the struggle for independence
and is a symbol of unity.

Much of the food in Djibouti is imported due to lack of
suitable agricultural land.
One of the most popular foods in Djibouti is the Soupe
djiboutienne.
It contains goat meat,potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes,
garlic, green chili pepper, finely onions, salt and black
pepper.

The religion in Djibouti is mostly muslim and a very
small percentage of christian.
The president is required to take a religious oath at
inauguration.
Other government employees are also required to do
so.
