provides MARC records to MARCIVE, where
they are provided to libraries through various
services.

• GPO is now doing original cataloging in RDA
• But records previously created in AACR2 remain
that way.
• Libraries currently get a mix of RDA and AACR2
records, and this will continue for some time.

Without Shelves, we edit the GPO RDA records
when we see that
• old abbreviations have not been spelled out
• CMC terms have misspellings
• fixed field information about formats doesn’t
agree with CMC information

Conversion of all GPO records
• We can convert all of a libraries’ GPO records to
RDA, if desired. No cost.
– Change access points to RDA
– Create Content, Media, and Carrier fields (CMC)
– Many other changes to conform to RDA
• Some libraries continue to rely on the General
Material Designator (GMD). If desired, we can
create it where missing. One time cost of $75.
