Getting Connected with AlphaSmart To connect the AlphaSmart to your PC, follow these instructions… Shut down the computer. Unplug the purple keyboard plug from the back of the computer. Plug the single orange plug which says connect to PC keyboard port into the back of the computer where the purple keyboard plug was. Connect Keyboard Plug your original purple PC keyboard cable into the AlphaSmart PC “Y” connector that has two purple connections and ends in an orange connection and is labeled connect to PC keyboard cable. Turn on computer Turn on the computer and wait for it to boot up. Test the keyboard by opening a word document and typing “test.” Get Connected Plug in the blue (AlphaSmart 2000) or gray (AlphaSmart 3000) connector into the PC port on the AlphaSmart while the AlphaSmart is off. Turn on the AlphaSmart and press the send key. MAKE SURE to turn off the AlphaSmart before you disconnect it. You can keep the “Y” connector on permanently, but if you remove it, be sure the computer is off. Installing the PC Y Cable PC Orange PC Keyboard Cable Orange Purpl e PC Y Cable Blue 2000 AlphaSmart Adapter Cable PC Keyboard Grey 3000 Connecting Your AlphaSmart 3000 to a USB ToComputer connect your AlphaSmart 3000 to a USB computer, either a Macintosh (iMac or newer) or a PC, use the USB cable. Simply plug the rectangular end of the USB cable into the computer’s USB port (either on the CPU, on a USB hub, or on some USB keyboards). Then connect the smaller, semi-square, end into the AlphaSmart 3000 computer port. The first time you connect an AlphaSmart 3000 to a USB port on a PC, Windows will bring up a series of screens to install the driver necessary to support the AlphaSmart 3000.
