2013 How Do You Solve a Problem Like GeoGebra? Can Tablets, GeoGebra, and Livescribe Files Play Nice? 2014 GeoGebra, Tablets, and Web Pages Now Play Nice John Gresham, Tarleton State University jgesham@tarleton.edu HTML Exports from Version 4.2 • In GeoGebra 4.2, html exports went to a file on your local computer. This one file included everything needed to run the applet. • Security problems with Java have led to updates for it. Under the newest Java, the older GeoGebra html files may not work. • GeoGebra 4.4 addresses these concerns by using HTML 5 GeoGebra 4.4 for Desktops and Notebooks • Html exports now go to GeoGebraTube • Links on local web pages point to your pages on GeoGebraTube • Java is not needed on the client computer (on some networks, Java is either disabled or security settings prevent its working with old local html exports). An Example Here’s a web page with examples that illustrate the key points: http://faculty.tarleton.edu/jgresham/ictcm/ictc m-2014-links.html Try each one and give them time to load (or not load). Error Message from 4.2 Unedited Export This appears under Tarleton’s network security settings for IE. Message with the Edited 4.2 Export This appears before the GeoGebra applet loads and runs. The third example will load without any warnings. Allow some time. A newer/updated browser is needed (I used IE 10 and Firefox 10.0.4). BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE… If you have a tablet with a browser that supports HTML 5, you can run the third example. In the next slide, we show a screenshot from a Kindle Fire HD running its native browser Silk. This browser does not support flash. Kindle Screen Shot JUST ONE MORE THING … The 4.4 Export Works on Smart Phones • Android (Moto X) • iPhone 4S And… (wait for it)… the html file produced in GeoGebra 4.4 has also been observed to successfully load and work on an iPad Air.
