Septic Operation Theatre Sr A R Sundari What is Septic OT • Septic operation theatre is a place where surgeries with risk of infection, like evisceration, abscess drainage, DCT , DCR etc are performed. • It is very important to organise and plan the septic OT to prevent postoperative and intra operative infections in aseptic cases Location • It should be away from the main theatre • Instruments and clothing used in septic OT should have different colour codes. • Patients should have limited access to SOT Location • Should be a place from where patients can be easily transferred, but routine clean patients have no access • Should have separate clothing room • Should have separate scrub room . Location • separate sterilization room away from the main theatre section • The instruments and eye towels should be sterilized separately from other linen like coats . • Sterilization of septic operation theatre instruments should be in a separate area away from routine sterilization area. Location • Should have good ventilation to prevent infection. • Adjustable lighting system with good illumination. • A flash autoclave should be available to provide routine instruments in between the cases.
