Development of Information System on
Cotton Genepool for Creating New Highly
Qualified Cotton Species

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:
• Developing of information system management on cotton
genepool, maintenance of its availability to information users,
gathering of new information, registration and its
transformation according by the international standards.
TA S K S O F T H E P R O J E C T :
• For developing of new early, high-yielding, high-quality, resistant to
diseases and pests and extreme conditions of habitat of cotton
cultivars, it is necessary search of a qualitative initial material from
available genepool, comprehensive analysis of a breeding material,
and also acceleration of breeding process and without use of
information technology methods not to manage any.
• Information system will be issued according to modern databases and
the information systems by responding international standards.

FROM THE PROJECT :
• The Information System on Cotton Genepool for an effective exchange
of the necessary information in work and purposeful use of the given
information in genetic and breeding research and other directions of a
biological science, and also for cooperation with the regional and
international organizations on the basis of intellectual property right
will be developed.
• Efficiency of preservation, documenting, management and use of
cotton genetic resources by means of adjustment of information and
germplasm exchange inside and outside of the republic will be raised.

FROM THE PROJECT :
Project realization will provide:
• Information transfer available now into modern level of conservation
and use according by international requirements;
• Design of the advanced data management systems on genepool;
• Introduction of new information technologies to biological and
agricultural science;
• Information availability to users and its effective use in an agricultural
science and practice;
• Considerable acceleration of breeding process at new cultivars
developing;
• Publishing of descriptors, catalogues, publications;
• Protection of intellectual property rights.

Gathering and the analysis of the information on cotton germplasm
characteristics, unification and standardization of characteristics for the
basic descriptors will be carried out.
The basic descriptors on germplasm characteristics on the basis of the
scientifically-proved ordering components of information system will be
made.
Spreadsheets of information system and input the information in a database
will be developed.
Inquiries of data will be designed; forms of information representation and
reports on germplasm characteristics are created.
Work on database approbation, completions on germplasm characteristics
and development of procedures on addition of a database with the new
information will be carried out.
The information on cotton genepool characteristics for the publication of
catalogues and other publications will be prepared.
