Both the certificate and the college credits will be issued by Rhode Island College and Rhode Island College Outreach Programs. CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL AND HUMAN SERVICES ASSISTANCE Comprehensive Training Includes: • Business Writing • Financial Literacy • Computer Skills — Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint) Internet, Keyboarding • Employability Skills: Applications, Resumes, Cover Letters, Job Search and Interviewing • Individual Employment Counseling with a Case Manager • Field Experience through Working Internship • Training: 418 hours Social and Human Services Assistance Certification Program is designed to: • Provide a high quality educational training and development program for entry level work in the human services field • Instill ethical responsibility for self, clients, and community • Prepare trainees for continued educational growth and development • Offer a 17-credit Certificate Program for those interested in an immediate occupation in direct service and possibly future study and career in social work • with a trained, ready-to-work frontline workforce CHW Community Health Worker Certification Comprehensive Training Includes : • • 6 weeks of classroom learning 6 weeks of experiential learning through an internship. Topics covered include: • Overview of the Role and Responsibilities of a Community Health Worker • Skills for Working with Clients and Families • Skills Surrounding Cultural Competency • Language Access and Healthcare • Health Literacy and Effective Communication • Tools For Introducing Health Education for Behavior Change • Supporting Access to Services • Leadership Skills for Advocacy and Action • Employability Skills: Applications, Resumes, Cover Letters, Job Search and Interviewing • Individual Employment Counseling with a Case Manager • Positive Attitude and a Healthy Approach to Each Student’s Career Path • English as a Second Language (ESL) if necessary • Potential careers include intake, caseworker assistant, interpreter, patient advocate, patient navigator, health educators, home visitor, health promotion specialist • careers can be in hospitals, community health centers, free clinics, health plans, state health departments, educational institutions, and social service agencies. Number of Hours: • Training:150 Classroom Hours • Internship: minimum96 hrs. (Meets Monday-Thursday, 20 hrs per week) English as a Second Language(ESL) and Computer Assisted English Language Learning (CAELL) The Computer Assisted English Language Learning program is designed to give adults whose first language is not English, the tools and foundation to communicate effectively in English. Various forms of technology are incorporated into the curriculum to enhance the classroom experience as well as giving students the opportunity to use different forms of media that they will use at work or in daily life. We provide our students with the necessary literacy and computer skills to function in their roles as learners,parents, workers, and consumers.
