accolades, is a place as famous for its
scenic beauty as it is for its vibrant cultural
offerings. There, in the shadow of
majestic Mt. Hood, one of the nation’s most
dynamic culinary, arts, and environmentallyfocused societies lives in tandem alongside a
thriving Montessori Community.
But why Portland, Oregon…
Through the Congress theme,
“Montessori: Guided By Nature,” the 2013
International Montessori Congress will allow us
to look closer at how Montessori education is

by children’s Guided
natural development
and
how that growth fosters a respectful
relationship with the environment. The theme
takes root in that dynamic relationship and
celebrates that we are all uniquely tied to the
physical and ecological makeup of our
surroundings.

engaging dialogues, school visits and history
exhibits. And since a true priority will be paid to
the arts and entertainment, don’t be surprised to
