What are Databases?
Databases are organized, searchable electronic records on
a particular item, such as a journal article
 Databases vary in the topics they cover and the information
they provide. Some databases include publication
information and brief descriptions of all articles published in
a group of scholarly journals or in a field
 Others provide access to the complete text of articles
published in certain newspapers, magazines, or journals.

About Cochrane
The Cochrane Library provides up-to-date information on the effects
of interventions in health care.
Cochrane reviews explore the evidence for and against the
effectiveness and appropriateness of treatments (medications,
surgery, education, etc.) in specific circumstances.
The Library contains several databases, one of which is a collection
of full-text articles reviewing the effects of heath care (the
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews). The other databases
(Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Controlled
Trials Register, Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews, and
others) provide citations and abstracts. Updating is quarterly.
