Welcome to ICEL International Church of Evangelical Christians in Leuven www.icel.be ICEL 77 CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS Matthew Bridges & Godfrey Thring CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS, The Lamb upon His throne; Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns All music but its own! Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity. ICEL Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o’er the grave And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save: His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring And lives that death may die. ICEL Crown Him the Lord of love; Behold His hands and side, Those wounds yet visible above In beauty glorified: No angel in the sky Can fully bear that sight, But downward bends His burning eye At mysteries so bright. ICEL Crown Him the Lord of peace, Whose power a sceptre sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, And all be prayer and praise: His reign shall know no end, And round His piercèd feet Fair flowers of paradise extend Their fragrance ever sweet. ICEL Crown Him the Lord of years, The Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, Ineffably sublime! All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me; Thy praise shall never, never fail Throughout eternity. ICEL 1837 HIDE ME NOW Reuben Morgan HIDE ME NOW under Your wings. Cover me within Your mighty hand. ICEL Psalm 46 1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. ICEL Psalm 46 5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. 7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. 8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. ICEL Psalm 46 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’ 11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Remember: Jesus’ Kingdom is inside out and upside down! ICEL Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” How do we understand and experience His comfort now? 1) Reflecting on the seriousness of our own sin and His grace and forgiveness 2) Understanding our position and adoption in Christ 3) Comforting others in their pain and loss 4) Reflecting on the reality of the future kingdom as motivation for present joy ICEL Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Conclusion: Isaiah 61:1-11 ICEL Isaiah 61:1-11 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, ICEL Isaiah 61:1-11 the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. ICEL Isaiah 61:1-11 5 Strangers will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. 6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast. 7 Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours. ICEL Isaiah 61:1-11 8 ‘For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.’ 10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation ICEL Isaiah 61:1-11 and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the soil makes the young plant come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. ICEL Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Conclusion: Isaiah 61:1-11 This is good mourning comfort!
