40 BE STILL
David J Evans
BE STILL, for the presence of the Lord,
the Holy One is here;
Come bow before Him now
with reverence and fear.
In Him no sin is found,
we stand on holy ground;
Be still, for the presence of the Lord,
the Holy One is here.
ICEL
Be still, for the glory of the Lord
is shining all around;
He burns with holy fire,
with splendour He is crowned.
How awesome is the sight,
our radiant King of light!
Be still, for the glory of the Lord
is shining all around.
ICEL
Be still, for the power of the Lord
is moving in this place;
He comes to cleanse and heal,
to minister His grace.
No work too hard for Him,
in faith receive from Him;
Be still, for the power of the Lord
is moving in this place.

1419 LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Tim Highes
LIGHT OF THE WORLD
You stepped down into darkness,
Opened my eyes, let me see.
Beauty that made this heart adore You,
Hope of a life spent with You.
ICEL
So here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God;
And You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.
ICEL
King of all days,
Oh so highly exalted,
Glorious in heaven above;
Humbly You came
To the earth You created.
All for love's sake became poor.
ICEL
So here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God,
And You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.
And I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross. (Repeat)

779 HOW CAN I BE FREE FROM SIN?
Graham Kendrick & Steve Thompson
HOW CAN I BE FREE FROM SIN?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.
From the guilt, the power, the pain?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.
ICEL
There’s no other way,
No price that I could pay;
Simply to the cross I cling.
This is all I need,
This is all I plead,
That His blood was shed for me.
ICEL
How can I know peace within?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.
Sing a song of joy again!
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.
ICEL
Flowing from above,
All-forgiving love
From the Father’s heart to me!
What a gift of grace –
His own righteousness
Clothing me in purity!
ICEL
How can I live day by day?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.
Following His narrow way?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus.

58 CHANGE MY HEART, O GOD
Eddie Espinosa
CHANGE MY HEART, O GOD,
Make it ever true;
Change my heart, O God,
May I be like You.
You are the potter,
I am the clay;
Mould me and make me,
This is what I pray.

Sermon ‘Bread from Heaven’
ICEL, Leuven
November, 4 2012
Pieter Boersema
Daily life in a busy world
• Too many things happened in this world but
also in the individual life.
• The tension between the daily reality of life and
the eternal reality of life.
• The church as the gathering of the fellowship of
people depending on God.
• God knows us and Jesus taught us His prayer:
ICEL
The Lord’s Prayer: Matthew 6:9-13
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one”.
ICEL
Bread as the symbol of daily life
• The most important staple food in Bible days
• Act of eating bread = breaking of bread =
creating a special relationship / covenant.
• Bread is the gift of God for humankind.
• Bread in the Bible stands for our daily need.
• Manna in the desert: Exodus 16:4 Then the
LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread
from heaven for you. The people are to go out
each day and gather enough for that day. In
this way I will test them and see whether they
will follow my instructions”.
ICEL
The Way to Calvary. Pieter Breughel, 1564
ICEL
ICEL
Pieter Breughel the painter of daily reality
• Pieter Breughel taught us both realities in the
context of Flanders in the 16th century.
• The peddler sitting with his back to us.
• A world with light and dark sides wherein
people exist.
• Enlarged: Mary, the mother of Jesus, John and
the other woman in the foreground.
• The move from left to right, led by red coated
horsemen.
• Many people are moving to see the spectacle of
the crucifixion.
ICEL
But Jesus is difficult to see, even in
the centre of the painting.
ICEL
Jesus in the centre of our daily life
Jesus giving his life as ‘the bread from heaven’.
John 6: 32-33 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell
you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread
from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the
true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is
the bread that comes down from heaven and gives
life to the world.”
verse 51: Jesus said: I am the living bread, …..if
anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.
ICEL
Our Father in Heaven
our (horizontal) Father (vertical)
God is overseeing the
world but people are
responsible for their
own deeds.
The mill grinds the grain
and makes is suitable to
bake bread.
“For the bread of God is
the bread that comes
down from heaven and
gives life to the world.”
ICEL
The Holy Supper, our daily and
eternal life.
• A contextualized painting: Jesus the center of
the redemption of the world almost not seen.
• The symbol of the tree of life: Jesus the
beginning (left) and at the end after dead (right).
• Deuteronomy 8:3 “That man does not live on
bread alone but on every word that comes from
the mouth of the Lord”.
ICEL
• Eating is gaining strength for tomorrow

1030 THE LORD’S MY SHEPHERD
Stuart Townend
THE LORD’S MY SHEPHERD, I’ll not want.
He makes me lie in pastures green.
He leads me by the still, still waters,
His goodness restores my soul.
ICEL
And I will trust in You alone.
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercy follows me,
Your goodness will lead me home.
(Descant)
I will trust, I will trust in You.
I will trust, I will trust in You.
Endless mercy follows me,
Goodness will lead me home.
ICEL
He guides my ways in righteousness,
And He anoints my head with oil,
And my cup, it overflows with joy,
I feast on His pure delights.
ICEL
And I will trust in You alone.
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercy follows me,
Your goodness will lead me home.
(Descant)
I will trust, I will trust in You.
I will trust, I will trust in You.
Endless mercy follows me,
Goodness will lead me home.
ICEL
And though I walk the darkest path,
I will not fear the evil one,
For You are with me, and Your rod and staff
Are the comfort I need to know.
ICEL
And I will trust in You alone.
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercy follows me,
Your goodness will lead me home.
(Descant)
I will trust, I will trust in You.
I will trust, I will trust in You.
Endless mercy follows me,
Goodness will lead me home.

894 LORD, I COME BEFORE YOUR THRONE
Robert & Dawn Critchley
Lord, I come before Your throne of grace;
I find rest in Your presence
And fulness of joy.
In worship and wonder
I behold Your face,
Singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God have I,
Faithful in every way.

Lord of mercy, You have heard my cry;
Through the storm You’re the beacon,
My song in the night.
In the shelter of Your wings,
Hear my heart’s reply,
Singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God have I,
What a faithful God.
What a faithful God have I,
Faithful in every way.
ICEL
Lord all sovereign, granting peace from heaven,
Let me comfort those who suffer
With the comfort You have given.
I will tell of Your great love for as long as I live,
Singing what a faithful God have I.

What a faithful God.
What a faithful God have I,
