In addition to his regional management role, he has been serving as President and Managing Director of Springer Japan KK, and played key management roles previously such as VP-Publishing and Senior Sales & Marketing Director. Prior to Springer, he was Executive Director, East Asia, ProQuest, where he managed offices and markets in China, HK, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. In his early career, he worked in medical communication and article-based distribution market in Japan, in services like document delivery, rights and permission agency, and digital content distribution for Pharma/R&D companies. 2013 Springer SEA eBooks Seminar | 3 Mr. Lawrence Liu Associate Editor Education & Language: East Asia & Southeast Asia Lawrence Liu, received his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication in China and finished his postgraduate study in international relations in Nanyang Technological University of Singapore in 2010. After graduation, Lawrence worked as an editor and researcher for Singapore-based companies. He joined Springer in 2011 and works as an associate editor for Springer Education and Language. Over the years, besides being in charge of several journals, he has been developing books and book series with authors and editors from Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Philippines. 2013 Springer SEA eBooks Seminar | 4 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoai Associate Professor, Faculty of Information Technology, IT R&D Center, Hanoi University Nguyen Xuan Hoai received the B.S. degree in computer science from Hanoi University, Hanoi, Vietnam, in 1995, the M.S. degree in mathematics for computer and computing systems from Vietnamese National University, Vietnam, in 1997, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2005. He was a Lecturer with the Department of Information technology, Vietnamese Military Technical Academy (VMTA), Hanoi, from 1997 to 2000. Upon completing the Ph.D. degree in Australia, he came back to VMTA in 2005, working as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology. From 2007 to 2009, he was a BK Assistant Professor with Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. Since 2010, he has been a Senior Lecturer, then an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology, and the Director of the HANU Information Technology Research and Development Center, Hanoi University. 2013 Springer SEA eBooks Seminar | 5 Dr Hoai has been the (co)author of nearly 80 refereed academic papers in the field of Evolutionary Computation and Genetic Programming (27 of them were published by Springer-Verlag). As a recognized researcher in his respective fields of research, he has frequently been invited as an reviewer for a number of highly prestigious academic journals (e.g. IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks) and academic conferences (e.g. ACM SIG-EVO GECCO, IEEE CEC, Euro-GP (published in LNCS by Springer-Verlag)).
