VBIEDs at VCPs Vignette Results
VBIEDs Neutralized before Detonation
Augmenting VCPs with DE systems significantly
improves (up to 3-fold) ability to stop VBIEDs …
Damage/Kills by VBIEDs
Distribution of Kill Types for VBIEDs Neutralized
… by providing a commander a non-lethal (mobility-kill)
capability that can be used earlier in decision cycle …
Collateral Damage by Blue Weapons at VCPs

SBIR Mission Statement
Enterprise SBIR Program Initiative
 To identify, evaluate, and prepare for insertion the technology
improvements and/or products developed by small
businesses through the Small Business Innovation Research
(SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
programs to the benefit of the various military and commercial
programs within the Boeing Company

Why Boeing Participates
Enterprise SBIR Initiative
• Able to build partnerships with small
businesses in the development of
technology as a part of the SBIR
program
• Assists in meeting DoD small
business program goals over the
long term through participation in
SBIR - “good faith effort”
• Development of potential suppliers
for production programs and other
development programs
• Achieve “win - win” by helping small
businesses be successful

Identifying Boeing Topics of Interest
Enterprise SBIR Program Initiative
 When SBIR solicitations are released Boeing researchers and
technologists are asked to identify topics of interest
 DoD, NASA, NSF, DHS, DOE
 List of interests are compiled and distributed to small businesses
 Small businesses can then contact Boeing personnel to discuss
interest and potential letter of interest, etc
 Participate in one-on-one discussions at national conferences
 Refer small businesses to appropriate Boeing personnel
 Provide list of companies interviewed to Boeing researchers and
programs

Boeing Participation
Enterprise SBIR Program Initiative
 Phantom Works and IDS currently working with 26
small businesses on SBIR contracts
 20 Phase II
 2 Phase III
 6 CPP STTP Agreements
 Involved with over 100 companies on over 200
technology projects since FY2003
 Presence at 4 or 5 national or regional SBIR
conferences each year

Tips and Strategies
Enterprise SBIR Program Initiative
 Know the company that you are going to market to, know
what they do
 So - that you can sell your company and what you do!
 Determine who to contact – Small Business Office,
Purchasing/Contracts, Engineering, etc
 At what level – corporate, business unit, program, site
 Be Persistent, Follow up
 Obtain letters of interest, quotes when appropriate
 Agree upon Non Disclosure Agreement early in process
 Customer, Prime Contractor, Company partnership

Summary
Enterprise SBIR Program Initiative
 The government’s SBIR program continues to grow in
importance each fiscal year
 IR&D can be enhanced for both small business and
Boeing through SBIR partnerships
 A “long term” project with large payback potential
 Boeing is an active participant in the program and
continues to search for technology and develop
