It is a foundation for many other fields of scientific inquiry. SLCC’s Chemistry Department encourages students to participate in the American Chemical Society, where they have received extensive national recognition. The largest number of female SME graduates obtained degrees in the Chemistry/Physical Science program. HEALTH AND LIFTIME ACTIVITIES The Fitness Technician Program is growing in popularity as a major for SLCC’s female students. The reason for this increased interest is their cutting-edge program that ties fitness and medicine. Develop qualified Personal Trainers to work in the Fitness Industry We… Are changing the way the medical industry interacts with the fitness industry through Exercise Is Medicine (EIM). Provide a solid exercise science foundation for students transferring to four-year institutions. MATHEMATICS The Mathematics Department serves approximately 9,000 students each semester, offering a variety of 20 different Math courses to choose from. Women’s interest in the MATH major is growing. Almost half of the faculty are women. Female faculty offer strong role models. Of all female graduates, 22% have been MATH majors. EDMT Engineering Design/Manufacturing Technologies SME offers a variety of engineering disciplines that are always in high demand. These areas of study, once thought of as non-traditional for women, include mechanical, civil, piping, electronics, structural, and industrial engineering. Other schools within our college offer additional technical degrees and certificates that provide exciting new carrier alternatives for women. SLCC’s Apprenticeship programs participate in the Utah Women in Trades organization to promote women in the trades. SME ACTIVITIES InnovaBio Society of Women Engineers Expanding Your Horizons Bytes Of Brilliance Slick Science Camp MESA/STEP Symposium Writing Initiative MESA/STEP Math, Engineering, Science Achievement/Science Technology Engineering Program The goal of MESA/STEP is to increase the number of females and minority students who pursue college educations in STEM fields. MESA/STEP exposes young women and minority students to the sciences Many of these students eventually join us in our SLCC community They organize high school student activities to encourage interest in STEM Girls between the ages of 12-17, from all around the state of Utah, join together to learn about the sciences through a variety of hands-on activities. Digital Media Technology Join the fun as we learn! Computer Aided Drafting Photoshop Photo Editing EYH conferences are offered to middle and high school girls to introduce them to a variety of STEM careers and encourage them to pursue the exploration of STEM. EYH conferences provide an opportunity for girls to engage with successful career women in STEM. EHY conferences promote interactions with peers in hands-on activities.
