Extreme Network - Microsoft Lync Solutions Lync Qualified Solutions – WIRELESS: IdentiFi WiFi Access points – WIRED: Summit and Black Diamond Switches – SDN: Lync SDN API Integration with OneFabric Connect Dynamic, adaptive QoS profiles leveraging existing QoS/CoS architectures Context-based Call Reporting for Lync Purview Application Analytics for Lync 10 ©2014 Extreme Networks, Inc. All rights reserved. End to End QoS and Contextual Reporting Solution Microsoft Lync SDN Integration with OneFabric Connect API Call Flow Process 1. End User initiates a call • Request is sent to the Lync Front End Server - SIP 2. Lync SDN API passes • Source – Destination IP • UDP Ports used by RTP • Type of Call 3. OneFabric Connect locates devices and users and creates dynamic profile on the switch that applies QoS to the flow/call • Each Packet is marked for QoS throughout the network • Leverages existing QoS mechanisms in the core • Lync Controller provides ongoing information to Extreme NetSight on Jitter and MOS 5. Call Termination • Remove QoS A • Add MOS data to end Report 11 ©2014 Extreme Networks, Inc. All rights reserved. SDN integration - Why does it matter for Lync? Prioritizing MS Lync based on UDP port ranges or DSCP does not work reliably – UDP port ranges can accidently prioritize other applications using the same ports, results on QoS degradation for MS Lync – DSCP based marking is only supported on MS endpoints, no support for iOS, Android etc See also Microsoft TechNet – Enabling QoS in Lync Server 2013 for devices that are not based on Windows. By default, QoS is disabled for computers and other devices (such as iPhones) that run other operating systems. Although you can use Lync Server to enable and disable Quality of Service for devices, you typically cannot use the product to modify the DSCP codes used by these devices. – Configuring Quality of Service policies in Lync Server 2013 for clients running on Windows 7 or Windows 8. Note that Microsoft Lync Server 2013 does not support QoS for other Windows operating systems, such as Windows Vista or Windows XP. City of Bellevue, Washington Saved nearly $100,000 in program budget by deploying Lync vs. traditional IP/PBX System Deployed QoS end-to-end to 1,200 users in their Microsoft Lync environment in “hours vs. weeks” Reduced troubleshooting time by quickly identifying application and network-related issues Gained deeper insights into City application investments and resource use, including Lync user adoption. “Using Extreme Networks made it quick and easy for us to incorporate the built-in QoS to deliver the best user experience to all of our employees across the City.” Garrett Solberg, Senior Network Architect, City of Bellevue 13 ©2014 Extreme Networks, Inc.
