You need to register There is an examiner Grades A-F • Check: Conditions for registration = starting the project Find a project Get/write a brief project plan (1-3 pages) Contact an examiner (before making any formal commitments!) 6 Master thesis 30 credits - Meet the requirements In order to begin the thesis! • Students studying in an engineering program at SCI: civil.ing. program requirements: -At least 240 credits completed -Max 2 unfinished compulsory courses from Years 1-3 • Students studying in an engineering program at another school at KTH - check with your student counselor at your civil.ing.program • International students, the requirement is 60 credits • The master program requirements check with your Head of Master 7 The Project • A project task that you need to find that you need to plan, execute and present (both written thesis and oral presentation/"defense") that is technically supervised where it is performed that you need to settle, with the client/employer and with the examiner • An opportunity to learn, deepen skills and gain experience to specialise to get acquainted with a company or a field to do academic research to travel to get employed (!) 8 Finding & choosing a project • In which area (subject matter)? – Should (typically) be a part of your track or the master core. • Where? – At a company – At an institute, agency or authority – At KTH – Mixed • Sometimes a company asks KTH to run a project on commission – Abroad • In industry or in academia • Even more important to assure that everybody involved agree 9 People involved • You – Find the project & do the work • Supervisor – Acts as your daily help, coach and support – Should be technically skilled !!! – Academic and in industry • Examiner : – Can be almost any teacher in the subject. (You choose who to ask.) – Accepts the project plan as thesis project (by signing your course reg.) – Accept the report and presentation at the end. – Grade the work. – Can act as extra support if needed… • Student Administration Office – Checks that you meet the requirements to register. – Makes the formal registration • A peer: – Thesis projects can be done in pairs if the work is clearly divided. 10 Application and Agreement • Fill in the form which is available on the website. • Must be signed by the examiner and supervisor submitted to the Student Administration Office • Registration for studies every semester My Pages / Mina Sidor 11 Thesis abroad You must have an examiner at KTH, but you are free to do your project outside of Sweden. • Contact a company/university yourself • Ask your department for ideas and contacts • Scholarship programs: ex.
