STANDARDS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE
LEARNING (ACTFL)
Language and communication are at the heart of
the human experience. The United States must
educate students who are linguistically and
culturally equipped to communicate successfully in
our increasingly more global world.
This
imperative envisions a future in which ALL
students will develop and maintain proficiency in
English and another language. In the case of ILT,
our kids will be proficient in English and two other
languages, Spanish and Chinese.
National Standards on Foreign Language Education-American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages
Five C’s
Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and
Communities—the five C’s of foreign language education.
