Welcome Back! 2013-14 School Year HS2 Mission We will prepare students for college in a supportive, small school environment that fosters academic success through greater relevance to students' culture, community, and personal lives. HS2 will serve Beaverton's diverse population of students and families by working with community partners to provide a rigorous and innovative health and science education. College Readiness at HS2 • Critical Reading, Critical Writing, Critical Thinking • Learning Target’s in each course that prepare students for College • OSU trip for all 9th graders each fall; PSU for 11th grade • OHSU partnership (MS and HS) • Dual credit, college classes here at HS2 • Internship placements HS2 Graduates of 2011, 2012 & 2013 Attend: UP, UO, OSU, PSU, PCC, WOU, Oregon Tech, Brown, Concordia, George Fox, College of the Siskiyous, Willamette, Lewis and Clark, Pacific, Seattle Pacific, Linfield, Corbin, Simpson, Clark College $1.8 Million in scholarships last year alone! Academics at HS2 New System: 4-Exceeds Learning Target 3-Meets Learning Target 2-Very close to meeting LT 1-Not very close to meeting LT Academics at HS2 Look for the following reports: Progress Reports: A report from each teacher indicating student progress on each of the Learning Targets October 15th March 14th Report Cards: A report showing student progress on each Learning Target and a letter grade in each class December 2nd January 27th April 25th June 14th The purpose of the report card is: to communicate a student's academic achievement or progress toward established District learning targets. to separately communicate a student's use of key academic behaviors that are critical to student success in college and work. to indicate areas of strength and areas where additional time and effort are required. Reading the Report: Attendance Information Behavior Marks Letter Grade on December, January, April, & June reports Academic Support Extended Period will replace JOLT this year and is an extension of each academic period rotating throughout the school year. HS Math Tutoring will start again in two weeks in Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s room (1201) during Extended Period. Homework Club starts on September 23rd and will be every Monday-Thursday, 2:15 to 4:00 through the year. HS2 teachers, parent volunteers, students, and our AmeriCorps Member support this work. Internships at HS2 Medicine and Engineering New partnership with Kaiser Volunteers at HS2 * Are very much appreciated! * Can help out in many ways, from clerical office support to tutoring and mentoring students! * Must pre-register as a volunteer with the school district (through the BSD website) and have a background check as part of Oregon Law. * Needed for HS2 events, especially tutoring, High School dances, Middle School socials, and PTO events!
