CTC Effects on Initiation of Problem
Behaviors
Grade 8 youth from CTC communities were:

delinquent behavior
…than Grade 8 youth from control communities
in a panel followed from Grade 5.

in Problem Behaviors
Eighth grade youth in CTC communities:
23% less likely to drink alcohol currently
37% less likely to “binge” (5 or more drinks in a
row) in last two weeks.
Committed 31% fewer different delinquent acts
in past year
…than Grade 8 youth from control communities
in a panel followed from Grade 5.

Sustained Effects of CTC after
Five Years
Compared to control communities, 10th graders in the
panel from CTC communities showed:
• Less rapidly increasing risk since grade 5,
• Lower mean levels of targeted risk,
• Lower incidence of delinquent behavior,
alcohol use, and cigarette use,
• Lower prevalence of past-month cigarette use,
• Lower prevalence of past-year delinquency,
• Lower prevalence of past-year violence
than their 10th grade counterparts from control
communities.
