THE TIDAL MODEL PHILOSOPHY
INTRODUCTION
The Tidal Model® is a philosophical approach to the discovery of mental health,
focused on helping people recover their personal story, as a first step towards
reclaiming control over their lives.
The Tidal Model is one of the very few recovery models to have been rigorously
evaluated across different setting.
The Tidal Model is an approach to recovery, rather than a rigid system. Tidal
projects in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Canada, are
presently exploring the diverse ways that the recovery or discovery of mental health
might be enabled, across different cultures and social settings.
Life presents most people with challenges serious challenges, at some time. The
Tidal Model is focused on helping people decide what needs to be done, now, to
help address their present difficulties, and so continue living as full and meaningful
a life as possible.

Intelligent kindness
“ Kindness is something that is
generated by an intellectual and
emotional understanding that selfinterest and the interest of others
are bound together”.
