Applied Information Technology Step 1– Transfer Credits • ONE Year before transfer credits are set in concrete. • Take care of issues THIS semester!!! • Review Transfer Evaluation • If there is an issue, get it addressed • If you think you’re entitled to more, file an appeal • There is no grace period Transfer Student Orientation - B.S. Applied Information Technology Step 2 – Courses • We strongly advise you to complete: IT Foundation courses (100 & some 200-level) first IT Core courses (200 & some 300-level) then, IT Concentration courses (300 & 400-level) then, Senior Capstone courses (400-level) Many courses have prerequisites! • Not tied to catalog year, rather, the term course is taken! Applied Information Technology Step 3 – Advising & Policies • Manage your time! – Each course will require several hours per week beyond lectures and labs – Be realistic about courses you can complete – Register early. Class fill quickly. – Plan for traffic on Fairfax & getting to Prince William • Ask for HELP from Peer Advisors & Faculty! Transfer Student Orientation - B.S. Applied Information Technology Step 3 - Advising & Policies VCCS Guaranteed Admissions Agreement – VCCS with AA, AS, or AAS – GPA = 2.85 or better at application and graduation • If you meet all requirements, receive a waiver of lower-level GenEd requirements • Important to make sure final transcript is recorded!!! Applied Information Technology Step 3- Advising & Policies • Successful completion of prerequisite is ‘C’ or better • Three Strikes… you’re OUT! – If you get a ‘C-’ or lower you have not met the prerequisite – 3rd attempt must have AIT approval Transfer Student Orientation - B.S. Pros to Cheating Cons to Cheating • • • • Get past a tough assignment Don't have to do the work Not learning the material you paid to learn Risk poor performance on exams • • Risk an Honor Code violation • • Cost of ~$1300 (in-state tuition) to retake the class, a delay in graduation, and a lowered GPA Risk academic suspension • • Cost of ~$100 and your time Risk an F in the course • • Violations appear on your record and are caught by background checks (e.g. security clearance) Risk forced completion of an academic integrity seminar • • If you do not know the material, the exams will be tough Delay in graduation and a notation on your transcript Risk expulsion • All of your time and money to date would be for naught Transfer Student Orientation - B.S.
